Our esteemed benefactor Sally is something of an authority on eyes.
Therefore, I beseech you to proceed with caution when attempting to generate smilies upon an archery theme.
Uninitiated experimentation with amateur fletching may result in a rather distasteful 1066 scenario. So for the sake of your precious vision desist now before you go the way of King Harold.
I, for one, have no desire to start weaving and embroidering another tapesty.

on this one i will hide behind a diplomatic "no comments"... hehe...
archery is a very noble art me thinks... honest!!!!!
i'm just concerned about the temptation of using A bow and arrows smiley in here and do feel that some innocent smileys might be hurt as a consequence of the misuse of such a smiley...
[i do care for the smileys me... hehe]

Well, bang goes my campaign for either a gun or umbrella smiley.
Damned lethal your average umbrella, when wielded by an expert.
Personally, I never leave for battle without one. Dependable, practical, functional and ideal for thrashing Belgians.

Loup Dargent Posted Aug 27, 2002
my concern is more about these smileys not being handled properly... hehe...
but fully trained researchers could use them i suppose...
ACE sally could train reasearchers in the art of archery in h2g2...
obviously your mad highness training novices in the art of umbrelling would be your thing...
i dunno about herr kow yet... but i know i would be gunning for arsenal.... lmhao... [thanks for this one kow... hehe]
talk later... on my way back to LD...

SallyM Posted Aug 27, 2002
I could do that, not allowed to aim the smiley at any others though, don't want to harm them.
We could set up a "Proper use of Smilies" Club.

yep...
now we're talking... hehe...
we also need:
a first aid post for injured smileys etc...
a rest room for them to rest after all their hard work...
a learning centre to help them gain more knowledge of the universe [multiverse?!]...
etc etc etc....
but also very important; we need to organise a christmas party for the smileys too...
err... have i jumped the gun a tad there?!...
i DO mean well... [whatever that means] and i do care for the smileys... hehe...
talk later...

The humble smiley is at risk.
For only ten pounds a month you too could sponsor a smiley to ensure that it receives proper , and from our team of experts in the field of internet icons.
Your contribution is extremely important to us at Smilies Have Intelligence Too; although the acronym could certainly use a little work.
Simply insert your credit card details here, along with your home address, house keys and a detailed timetable of instances of when you will not be at home and one of our caring representatives will be only too happy to rifle through your cupboards in search of the odd twenty.
With your help we could transform this into this
And remember, give a man a smiley and you teach him to use the fullstop and comma key with masterly panache. Teach a man to use the smilies for himself and his next message will consist of a seemingless stream of indecipherable gobbledigook that even his own mother will be unable to understand.
So remember to give generously or looking will fill your letterbox with so much junk that you will quite literally be unable to wrestle your front door open.

I read with some degree of foreboding that you too have been contacted by Kevo to recreate all the thrills and spills of fictional online monster bashing.
I, for one, am ready to dive headlong into the fray.
Shall the Paladin be gracing this errand of folly with her sword of justice?
And will Citizen Garru be able to draw upon his native skills and smuggle us all to Switzerland in a barrel should the whole thing take on the dimensions of a tapered fruit of the Pyrus communis tree?
Congratulations on the discovery of your wolf smiley at long last. It does, however, slightly resemble a fire damaged squirrel helping itself to a bowl of porridge.
Then again, if I were to tell you of the things I have seen amid the Rorschach ink blot tests, you would probably notify the relevent authorities.

A most sage suggestion my dear Paladin.
It would indeed be an impediment wandering the dank, dark caverns of the underworld with a horse between your legs. Not least amongst these hazards would be the predisposition to concuss oneself against the ceiling when charging at full tilt against the enemy.
In your wide experience of medieval combat is it possible to slay a dragon with an umbrella?
I hear tell that there is usually a vunerable area on the underbelly of such a beast so would be grateful for any martial tips that you could pass my way.
Then again, given my customary dreadful revolutions upon the wheel of fortune I confidently expect to be facilitating the growth of daisies from below within the first twenty four hours.
Yours with gun and umbrella,
Paladin the Dungeon Mistress.
Loup Dargent Posted Sep 1, 2002
one proven way to defeat a dragon [preferably medium size... tho']:
yawn a lot in front of the beast...
after a while the dragon will yawn too...
then when it's got his mouth wide open
insert umbrella in that particular orifice
and open it....
then run as fast as you can....

I am indebted to you for your advice on amateur dragonslaying.
To date, the only way in which I have been able to placate a fire breathing, sharp fanged and highly deadly member of the lusus naturae set was by marrying it.
When she returns from work this afternoon I shall attempt to demonstrate the yawning umbrella approach and see how far it takes me in my cause.
However, given the nature of our relationship, she is usually able to run a damned sight faster than I in any case.
