Taxing Caskets

Burying your hated ex-husband at sea: $6000
Deep sea fishing trip with new boyfriend: $450
Reeling in said ex-husband: priceless.

The idea of sending ones ashes into space sounds cool - can I have mine spread on my piece of land on the ?

That is a cool idea. Wonder how much it costs?
With my luck, I'll wind up mixed with the kitty litter.

Has anyone here read the Helliconia books by Brian Aldiss? I mention them because this thread has me thinking about our concern with remains. In the Helliconia trilogy (I think it's a trilogy), one of the curious details is the natives' complete lack of concern about the destination of remains or special treatment of dead bodies. If, as one character did, you find a dead body, you might just throw it on the back of the cart and try to sell it to a knacker's yard.

Is it the Zoroastrians who put bodies out for the buzzards?
The outdoor pyres that are used in the east seem a much better way to hold a cremation service than our methods of having a building hidden away someplace where it won't offend anyone's sensibilities. By having the mourners present when the pyre is lighted, it makes the circle more complete. It's like seeing things through to the end. And it seems more personal.
I suppose a crematorium is tidy. We like for things to be tidy. Cemeteries have to be tidy, so no more standing gravestones...too hard to mow. Pick flowers up within 2 weeks of Memorial Day so they won't blow around and look untidy. That's why it's so inconsiderate for a ghost to come back and haunt us. It's not tidy having them hang around. You never know when they'll pop up.

I saw a once, but it wasn't in a cemetery. It scared the stuffing out of me . Are you a friendly
Zello? Or shall we consider this thread haunted? And, more importantly, did you pay sales tax on your casket?

*consternated* I hope all those webjello cowboys and indians were Zoroastrians!
