Beatrice Posted May 19, 2003
Just collected about 3,000 krone from the bank.
Will that be enough for a taxi and a coffee?
How about the Tuesday evening at 7 pm. We'll have had a full day in Rekjavik by then and you can tell us which bits we missed.
The...erm...penis museum sounds.....very inneresting....

You probably won´t need much cash in advance, if you have a debit/credit card. There are ATMs everywhere and everywhere takes cards anyway, even most taxis!
Tuesday, 27th of May, 19:00 at the Black Café on Laugavegur! Deal!
cheers ismarah
ps. I´ve not been to the w!lly museum, but it might be 'interesting'...

I'd better point out that I'm small, short gingery hair, Sarah is larger, black bob hair, we'll be with a 12year old blond boy and a 9 year old girl with long brown hair. And I may be wearing a pink body-warmer. That oughta narrow it down!
What's the temperature there anyway?
Iceland!
ismarah - fuelled by M&Ms Posted May 20, 2003
Well, at the moment it´s about 15°C - bodywarmers therefore optional.
Did you mean to type 3000.- or 30,000.-?
if there are 4 of you, it might be cheaper to take a taxi from the airport to the hotel/wherever, rather than pay for the airport bus as I think the ticket is 1000.- per person (about a tenner) and then you´d possibly need a taxi from the bus stop... So if there´s 4 of you that would be at least forty quid, whereas I have no idea how much a taxi would be, probably about the same or less + more comfy!
DancingTree, who will be there with me, looks irish, with black hair and pale skin, and he has glasses. I´ll tell you later what I look like, as I´m having a haircut tomorrow...

if only I knew what I want them to do - no ideas!
The euro stands at 85 krona, ish... so 250*85= 21250 ISK
That´s definately enough for a taxi and a cuppa...

Just checked the airport bus timetable, and both my kids will qualify for free fare, so it's probably worth doing that. It might even stop at our hotel!
Sarah was asking about the Aurora Borealis. I seem to remember in one of Bill Bryson's books that he said it was very unpredicatble. Are they visible from Reykjavik? I'm guessing you'd need to escape the city lights for a good view. Is there a certain time of year when they appear?
How's your hair
Iceland!
ismarah - fuelled by M&Ms Posted May 21, 2003
Unfortunately there is no chance of you seeing the Aurora Borealis here at this time of year, as it requires very still, cold weather and no/little clouds. By this time of year, it´s become too warm. Bad for tourists, good for the inhabitants...
Hair is still mostly red, with blond-ish highlights. I wish I knew how to blowdry my hair properly, I´m too old not to...

It was very nice
We had a nice dinner, chatted about tons of stuff and then walked all together back towards their hotel. Luckystar and co had a huge schedule planned, and today has been very nice, so that´s good.

Ahem... more or less very private question...:
Is there a "The 13 1/2 lives of Captain Bluebear" on Icelandic?
Iceland!
ismarah - fuelled by M&Ms Posted May 30, 2003
Captain Bluebeard? as in Tintin?
If so, there might be, but I'm not sure.
I´d have to look... do you want me to?
I´ve been stuck at home, having gotten chilled in the week. Managed to infect TheDancingTree and now he´s home, sniffling and sneezing and not a happy bunny.
Did you see my not so wonderful attempt at german over at the Islendingabok Peer review thread?
cheers ismarah

Yes, have seen it. "Arbeitssucht"... I'm not too addicted to work
No, it's "BlueBEAR" by Walter Moers - would you really have a look for it? *hugs*

Beatrice Posted Jun 2, 2003
Phew! Back home safe and sound after an amazing week.
We spotted whales, rode horses, marvelled at geysirs and waterfalls, lounged in the Blue Lagoon, spent many many thousands of Krone....and totally failed to see the eclipse on the one cloudy night of the week
It was lovely to meet you and Craig, and best wishes for the future.
and Sarah
