Iceland!

oooh! A researcher in Iceland!
I'm planning a visit next year: on the 31st May there's a very groovy eclipse visible from Iceland: it's an annular eclipse, which means it's not total, but leaves the sun as a ring around the moon. It's happening at sunrise. It's extremely unusual in that it's happening over the top of the North Pole, so instead of goiing west to east it will travel East to West. Oh, and it's happening on my son's 112th birthday.
Fancy joining us?

sounds like a plan to me (and I´m sure Dancing Tree would come along too)
See you then

Beatrice Posted Nov 22, 2002
It covers a huge area over the whole of the North Pole, Greenland, Iceland....i'll see if i can find a link

it's even gonna be visible from the North of Scotland! but they say the best place is North East Iceland, preferably on a hill to minimise the risk of clouds on the horizon.

Could do, I suppose
There´s a little café/pub on the main shopping street, Laugavegur.
It´s called Svartakaffi, or Black Café and it has the most amazing soup in bread. Although, as elsewhere here in Iceland, avoid Guinness.

Ah! I see it mentioned in my guidebook. Must be good
Did I also hear of a revolving restaurant, called the Pearl? Or did I just dream that....
Iceland!
ismarah - fuelled by M&Ms Posted May 12, 2003
it does revolve and it is very posh.
But they also have a sight seeing deck and café, which aren´t too expensive, and are highly recommended on a bright day for the incredible view and visibility...
so when´s the eclipse then? just in case I´ll pop out to see it...

Early morning on Saturday 31st.
I suspect this means a late night on the Friday
Should be cool, I'll be there with my 2 kids (son's 12th birthday, daughter is 9) and my best friend, Sarah LMH (she doesnt post much!)
Also my favourite-ex-husband-and-father-of-my-children is flying in as a surprise visit on the Friday night for the weekend. Instant party or what!
Must check out where's the best place to view it from...

mmm, I grind my teeth in my sleep too.
Ok we'll have an Iceland mini-meet
Lunch at that cafe on the Tuesday or Wednesday? Then we can arrange an eclipse viewing schedule type thingy
Iceland!
ismarah - fuelled by M&Ms Posted May 14, 2003
We can´t make lunch, I´m afraid we´re both working...
rant/ not all of us can take a few days off to go see eclipses /end rant
Of course, we´re taking off the first weekend in June, Pentecost, to go over to the UK... TheDancingTree is going back to his roots <= PunGirl strikes again!
dinner would be more doable for us, I don´t know how that works with your schedule?
cheers ismarah
