Hi ACE,
An interesting concept and one that I'm sure Mr. Adams would endorse.
I joined H2G2 so that I could more easily store my progress in the game. I would suggest some links to good tip sites as a worthy addition to the newbie welcome page.
Looking at your bio, I see we are several generations apart, but I don't mind admitting that I am a big fan of computer games and my son's PS2. RPGs for the most part. I'm ticked off about the new Bard's Tale. I was so looking forward to a funny version of Champions of Norath, but all accounts say battles are boring and there is little replay value. Best PS2 experience for me so far was FinalFantasy X. (My first experience of the series - getting to the whole PS2 thing only 2 yrs ago).
Most played computer games: Command and Conquor: Red Alert 2, Yuri's Revenge, Generals.
Currently wasting lots of time with Sims2.

yeah I heard the same thing about Bard's Tale, I'd been keeping my eye on it as at first it sounded really good but then previews started saying that they weren't sure
Have you played Final fantasy X-2? It is much more relaxed than FFX, taking itself much less seriously, but it is still quite a fun game to play. I think it equals FFX in my eyes, and it does give a good ending to the whole storyline.
I've never been able to play the Sims on PC; my computer is for work use not games I have played the PS2 version of the Sims, which consumed my life for a long time, but it doesn't appear to be quite the same as the PC version.

FFX-2 - more of the same, but without the tension. Played about half the game and like the characters, but FFX was so much more immersive. It is the only one-player game to date that the whole family has played start to finish as a team. For a game to keep my wife interested means it has something very special in the way of character development and plot.
Avoid Sims2 at all costs! It is a huge time waster. I spent at least 10 hours on it just trying to get my son in to private school. A+ report cards every day, but the headmaster would never turn up as promised to interview the parents.
Finally cracked that puzzle, but an "upgrade" (more RAM) has mysteriously caused the game to become unstable.

very weird! I've seen some of my mates play Sims 2 for hours so I can understand what you're getting at.
I also know what you mean about FFX-2. I still think the best Final Fantasy might have to be FFVII but that was my first ever Final Fantasy so that has made me biased towards it. However, if you ever see it cheap somewhere it is well worth playing it!

Last thing I'll say in guestbook. Not very efficient to converse in 2 areas at once!
I've put in an ebay bid for FFVII as several people seem to think it is the best of the lot, despite being PS1.

i am part of spy society - but how do i know when the next mission is? do i have to keep going back to the main page?

The new missions are announced in the "Briefing room" thread which is on the main page. If you subscribe to that thread then you should be able to see when there are missions etc; I'm going to try and keep that thread for mission use only now, rather than being a social thread as it used to be. Any problems let me know
