I have a theory that HHG appeals to many with marginal self-esteem who associate, to a greater or lesser extent, with Arthur Dent. If you have an ego the size of a planet, then maybe HHG is not for you.
Not having met many egomaniacs, I can't offer any evidence to back up my speculation.
Other than the self-esteem thing, I really had little in common with Arthur when I first met him in my late teens, other than a liking for tea.
This did not stop me basing my degree thesis on HHG, from a literary criticism angle. What a bunch of twaddle that was! I also created the first radio episode of the tertiary phase with the help of a few friends and a multi-track tape deck long before the Beeb got around to it.
For the tiny fraction of the universe that might conceivably give a nats piss about it, here's the educational and locational synopsis:
Born Romford, Essex
Educated St. Michael's College, Tenbury Wells
Haileybury and Imperial Service College, Hertford
North East London Polytechnic
Manchester University
San Francisco State University
Currently residing in San Mateo, CA
