Yeah, Jessica Hynes (neé Stevenson) shows up in Shaun too. And she was the Doctor's love interest in the last couple of episodes of Who. Very incestuous business, British light entertainment.

PS Very close - e before i.

Hope you get to enjoy Green Wing. smiley - smiley

Well, Spaced is turning out better than my original opinion. K's enjoyed it quite a bit- we got through Series 2, Episode 5 last night. I've never seen a Star Wars movie, but even I get the "Phantom Menace" thing, which about kills K every time. And I thought the finger gunfight scene was pretty funny. For some reason I also quite like "Tyres", even if he is accompanied by the most annoying "music" in the world.

It's actually quite fun noticing people and saying "Oh, that's from ". I noticed right away that one of the Men In Black in the "Back" episode was the vet from The League of Gentlemen (a show I think is hilarious).

Anyway... I probably should quit going on about it. smiley - laugh Not sure, but I'll probably order the first Green Wing series and if I (we) like it, order the second; if not, to Mary it goes.

Tyres is a great laugh. I can relate to him in some ways (if I could just control these smiley - bleeping MOODSWINGS). I used to do a lot of speed and often got disco fever at the rocking of a train carriage, or any old shit. Yes, I know, sad but true.

PS If you look around you can see Tyres, in full bike courier gear, as one of the zombies in Shaun.

Fave quote re: Phantom Menace "But Jar Jar Binks makes the Ewoks look like smiley - bleeping Shaft!" smiley - laugh Glad you're enjoying it.

I'm having Monday off so I can rattle some drums with Simon's band Sunday night (still not John Bonham). Have a good weekend whatever you do. smiley - smiley

Nothing exciting planned for this weekend here; mainly the usual goig through the apartment and tidying up five rooms (and one bathroom) worth of the detritus of guy + cat, doing a bit of laundry, and maybe taking a road trip to a forest preserve to see if I can get some cicada photos before they all croak.

Hi

Was thinking about you this morning, and your low threshold of warm-weather tolerance. smiley - winkeye It's half past noon, 91°F (33°C), with only 28% humidity and comfortable ozone/ particle pollution levels.

Still, we're indoors, with the blinds shut and the A/C set to around 73°F (28°C). I'm not in a mood to get sweaty today.

Got some tidying accomplished: productive for a Saturday morning!

Hope you've enjoyed your weekend.

Hi

That's curious. I was thinking of you lot last night - couldn't sleep, so I stayed up and watched The Negotiator. Decent enough for an action flick, but it was nice reminiscing about downtown Chicago. smiley - rolleyes

There's been flash flooding around the country lately. Thankfully not around here, but in between it's good and humid and warm - and I've yet to deal with my excellent wasp problem yet. Some people are in 3 feet plus of water though.

Soul Converters had a 9 DVDs for £20 day, so I spent an hour finding 9 I wanted, thus

Being John Malkovich
Chasing Amy
Donnie Darko
House Of Flying Daggers
Napoleon Dynamite
Solaris
War Of The Worlds (the new one)
Something else I can't remember right now, and Sin City which I watched yesterday. Great to look at, but even for a faux noir the dialogue pissed me off intensely. "She smelt the way angels oughta smell". smiley - wah

This afternoon before jamming, I'm going to take my chances with American Psycho (taped off TV, so probably cut to hell). Let's see how I cope with that! smiley - winkeye

Hi

"American Psycho" is OK. I actually preferred the book, in spite of my initial "WTF?" response, and that my mind can certainly supply far worse detail than any old movie. Just keep reminding yourself it's satire...

Haven't seen all of the movies you mentioned. I liked "Being John Malkovich", and loved "Donnie Darko" (prefer the Director's Cut). Didn't think much of "Napoleon Dynamite", unfortunately, though I'd had high hopes for it.

I ordered a couple of DVDs from a place called Oldies.com yesterday. They carry lots of public domain titles, some occasionally worth having. smiley - winkeye They also seem to liquidate overstock for major distributors, which occasionally means a good deal. Got a copy of "Cleopatra Jones" for K's birthday, "Cool Hand Luke", and an $8 20-movie pack of crap sci-fi.

It's going to be rather warm here again today and tomorrow. 33°-35°C forecast highs for both days. Possible t-storms, but I'm not near enough a river to worry about flash floods. 3 foot flooding isn't nice- I grew up close enough to the Des Plaines River to have experienced that many a time in my youth. I remember how frustrating it was for my poor dad- one year we had over 3 feet of water in our basement. I feel for all of those people who've had stuff ruined. Hopefully you lot have decent insurance companies over there to help those poor people repair and replace. smiley - sadface

I'd be very doubtful of that, one can but hope.

Maybe I wasn't in the right mood for it but I gave up on AP after 40 minutes. Started off really enjoying it, thought it was funny but after a while I wasn't filled with horror or disgust, I was *bored*. I just thought the distance between Bateman the self-obsessed Wall St shithead and Bateman the psycho killer was a short walk, and I guess I didn't care. I know it's supposed to be satire but I really felt it was ladled on. Maybe the book's a little more subtle, but I did sense that Brett Easton Ellis was a teenager when he wrote it.

But then I loved Napoleon Dynamite, so de gustibus non disputandum est, eh? smiley - winkeye

Jam went well last night until this old Jamaican guy from upstairs came in, really pissed off with the noise and the intrusion, grabbed a kitchen knife from the side; started ranting and threatened Si. They're not practising there again.

Hope the weather treats you fairly.

Hi

Well I can't corroborate that Ellis was a teenager when he worte it, but that's what I'd heard on Radio 4, so it must be true...

For some reason I thought I'd responded to you over the weekend. Oof. Short-term memory's really shot these days.

Netflix was a little slow shipping movies last week, but we watched a newer horror flick called "The Abandoned" that wasn't half bad. I guess it was one of a "horrorfest" called "8 Movies to Die For", or something like that. Anyway, it was entertaining enough. I was a little preoccupied with a migraine most of the weekend and didn't bother watching anything I haven't already seen.

How was your weekend?

Hi

Hey, no worries. Good to hear from you again, hope you're feeling a bit better.

I just found this, the Jelly Whitman http://www.b3ta.com/board/7334193

My weekend was very quiet; not paid till Wednesday, and I'd overshopped again. So I watched Malkovich and Some of Chasing Amy, an excellent episode of Who - squat else really. Life begins again next week, really.

Just got my birthday present from my cousin Laura at long last. The Star Wars trilogy on DVD She's just bought a flat. That's humbling, my little cousin bought a flat.

Hi

Jesus, I just read about your recurring dental health issues. smiley - hug Hope things work out for you there. Kudos for not taking the English stance on tooth care.

Hi

Post 174

psychocandy-moderation team leader

Oh, it's not as bad as it sounds, I'm sure. Most people here get their wisdom teeth pulled. And I've no one to blame for having a few cavities but myself- putting off dental visits for lack of insurance is ultimately my own damn fault.

I'll live, but I'll have to use a handful of sick days to get this all done. I'm a real bitch when I don't feel well and I'd hate to bring that kind of demeanor to the office. smiley - winkeye

Finally got rid of that migraine. My head was still throbbing yesterday. Today, I'm just sleepy. And it's going to be a warm one- anything from 32°- 35°C. T-storms forecast for tomorrow, then back to normal through the weekend or so. Ho hum.

And I'm reading "The Call of Cthulhu", to cheer me up, and inspired by playing with my new toy last night.

Hi

Did I ever tell you about the time I played Godzilla Vs Mr Potato Head? Built a fairly elaborate Lego Tokyo and about brained myself jumping on it with Godzilla slippers.

Guess you had to *be* there...

Hi

I would have loved to see that. I remember you saying you wanted to make the movie. smiley - winkeye

"Pardon me boy..."smiley - musicalnote

Weather here has been biblically wet, windy and cold. The Daily Diana's Death said yesterday was the wettest day in 50 years. Flooding all over the place, dams bursting, hundreds homeless and a couple of deaths.

Simon is currently on holiday in Cornwall, normally one of the most beautiful bits of the country, but near the epicentre of the worst of it. More fool him to go down there on Glastonbury weekend. The two of us went to Glasto in '95. It was gorgeous then, even after the acid.

Hi

Post 177

As nice as cold sounds, I'm not sure it'd be worth enduring the floods. Oh, well. Can't have everything. Where would I put it?

And, since I seem to be on a bit of a "kick" today: http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/Cthulhu

Oh, I like that. Nice and summery-themed. I may need to use that for my background here on my work PC.

I'm not off tomorrow. But my boss is out, so I'll get about as much work done as if I were. smiley - winkeye Seriously, though- enjoy your day off!

I've got vacation coming up the week of July 16th. I'm looking forward to it. Would you like to place your bet now that I'll be bored to tears by mid-day Tuesday. Though I have planned many fun-filled hours of cleaning ceiling fans, Venetian blinds, cabinets, etc...
