I see that nasty troll tig is back making random asinine comments to people's journals, just to remind them that just when you think you can actually have a serious discussion on this site, you can't. Anyone with half a brain could've seen that journal wasn't the appropriate place for spamming. Sigh.
How's this for record time- it's 6:20 AM and already I've run out of motivation for getting work done today.

You and me both. I'm about ready to quit here. No idea how I'm going to cope with management.

You'll manage. It's probably feast or famine, like for me. Sme days you're so busy you don't know whether to wind your ass or scratch your watch. Other days, it's all you can do to stay awake, not to mention focused on the task at hand. I've got this bad habit of knocking out the tasks I don't mind (as well as those with clear deadlines) first and procrastinating the stuff I don't care for.

Amen to that! Why put off till tomorrow what you can just forget about altogether.

Tom and I went to see 10,000 BC tonight, hoping for a visual feast which it was, but not for the acting. It started off okay, on a sort of Quest For Fire, Clan Of The Cave Bear vibe, but then developed into basically the story of one white guy leading thousands of black guys to freedom from a bunch of Arabs. But it was entertaining enough, and nice to see the old wise woman, who used to be in Eastenders.

How close are you to Roscoe village? Police shot an escaped cougar there yesterday, apparently.

I'm just about a mile away from that part of Roscoe Village.
I'd heard about the cougar- can't believe they shot the poor thing. Well, Chicago cops have been known for their fondness for excessive force. Poor thing was just sitting on someone's front porch and then just tried to run away; cougars are shy of humans. But why call animal control and have the cougar tranquilized and humanely trapped when you can treat a fellow living being like a piece of garbage.

What's really disturbing is that they're reporting as if the cops were "forced" to shoot it. Of course they weren't. They *chose* to shoot it, rather than do what any decent person would have done and called animal control.
The only thing I dislike about this city is its police force.

I had to say "it's a jungle out there" on the news thread. But it's a bit of a personal issue for you anyway, isn't it? Your dad having been one.
Going to London tomorrow for the next forms meeting. After that I'm going to look around the National Portrait Gallery for the Vanity Fair exhibit.

My dad wasn't a city cop, he was in the suburbs. Corruption, when it happened, did so on a much smaller scale, and I don't think bad training and bad attitudes were as much a problem there as in the city.
A visit to the Gallery sounds like fun.
I'm going to take a personal day at some point this month. It was meant to be Friday, but I forgot all about scheduling it.

Oh, I'm off Friday too. And next Friday, being payday and my birthday. And the day I find out if Gordon's last budget as Chancellor has taken a chunk out of my money so I can't get that flat-screen TV...

My boss is taking Friday off- so even if I'm here, I won't have a lot to do and can surely leave early. So maybe I'll shoot for Friday, May 9th.
Supposed to be going to see a "Dr Phibes" double-header this Friday. Not sure if anyone will be there signing autographs this time- I haven't looked.

I bought that on DVD a few years ago- it's big fun.
There's a very good chance that there will be something mailed out to you later this morning.

I used to get those- but on account of feeling old. Now I just get annoyed at being too fat for yet another year. Any special plans for the big day?

Taking the day off - Paying the rent, bills, maybe seeing my auntie - and if I can stretch to it, getting a flat-screen TV. Nothing bigger than 22" though, if I'm lucky.

22" isn't a bad size, though- I just got a 22" monitor for my computer at work, and it for some things it almost seems *too* big. Depending on the size of your room and how close you're sitting, some sets could overdo it.
Good luck- I hope you'll manage to get it!
