So what did you come up with for your short film?

Guy goes up to Jesus, on behalf of the meek, claiming their rightful property. With hilarious consequences! Perfect role there for Simon.

Any interesting pumpkin designs planned?

Sigh. Filling time in the library while I wait for Tom to get out of work. If only there was somwhere I could find a good book.

No pumpkin designs this year. No costumes, parties, or trick-or-treat goodies, either. K's decided to be all cranky about my favorite holiday this year. I'm already plotting my revenge.
Only you could sit in a library and complain about being bored.

It's weird, but apart from all the usual reasons - laziness, attention problems - the only books I've managed to get engaged in over the last few years, some quite heavy, but they've all been non-fiction. I haven't got "lost" in a story for years.
In the spirit of which - I really enjoyed the movie. It was utterly stupid but entertaining. Being set in post-zombie apocalypse Nevada, there was a definite Mad Max/scorched Earth vibe, and some amazing scenery. There was a mental Romero-does-The-Birds bit when everyone is attacked by a flock of zombie crows. That was cool. Okay, it was formulaic and the acting was dreadful, I lost count of the debts owed to other films, and you couldn't watch it without thinking "tell you what... this would make a pretty good computer game"; bollocks to it though, it was a laugh.
Hope you get to have some fun this evening... what's on the agenda?

On the way to the cinema we passed some council types steam-cleaning the road. Halloween I thought, got a shot of it on my mobile and tarted it up a bit. It nearly works...

That's a pretty cool photo! I like.
Nothing terribly exciting planned for Halloween this year. No parties, nothing. Just some Halloween pasta I found at an import food shop (shaped like ghosts, pumpkins, and witches and naturally colored orange, dark brown/blackish and regular pasta-y color) and hopefully "Silent Night, Bloody Night" will arrive in the mail from Netflix. Otherwise I'm sure we can pick something spooky out of the collection.
I'm wearing an orange camisole and a black cardigan, though.

Oooh! Don't go in any Irish pubs though.
I have decided to stick some sweets in a bucket outside, put this in the window, go to bed early and moan about my cold.

I tried sticking candy in a bowl outside the first year I lived in my present place. Apparently everyone was really good about taking only one piece of candy apiece, but someone's mom or dad must've liked my bowl, because that was stolen. I don't bother anymore- and there are just too many steps to the front porch from my door (62!) to run all the way down every time the doorbell rings. No one waits long enough for me to bound down them.

Dammit, I haven't even had the opportunity to look at the one from the other day yet, either. Never even turned the computer at home on yesterday.
Oh, well, it'll give me something to look at Saturday morning if not sooner.

Sorry, I should stop spamming you with random sillies. Conveniently, I'm ordering home broadband today, hope to have it by next week.
I finally beat my mobile at chess this morning.

Oh, I don't mean to make it sound like the random sillies aren't appreciated... just that I don't get to check them out as quickly as I'd like.
Home broadband? We're back to living dangerously again, eh? Well, it'll make it much easier to get up to creative stuff. I could never have sent that email last night without broadband.
Never played chess on my mobile. How cool that you beat it! I've downloaded a couple of games- Bejeweled and Peggle and Frogger so far. I like to play on the train home from work, if I can't get a seat and read (for some reason reading while standing on the train makes me dizzy). But I'm not sure I've ever come close to "winning" yet.
Planning to try (again) to convert some vinyl/cassette to CD this weekend. I needed an adapter for the headphone jack, because my receiver doesn't have RCA output jacks. Why can't anything ever just WORK the first time?

Researcher U197087 Posted Nov 2, 2007
That email was very appreciated.
I ought to make the most of commute time to read... the route I get is predominantly taken by single mothers and idiot kids (aka Hoodies). Listening to a portable radio or fiddling with my phone (like every other citizen of the UK) offers me some distraction.
I have a few of those headphone-RCA adaptors spare. I'm sure they're two a penny there too, but if you're ever short a lead or something I'll have a dig around if you like.

Well, thanks! I'll keep that offer in mind. I think I paid $6 for the adapter, because I went for the gold plated connectors rather than the other one (which was around $1). Of course, my stereo receiver has the larger headphone jack and the adapter is 1/8"; I've got three sets of headphones and all of the adapters we have are from large plug to small, not the other way around. But K has one of those bookshelf stereo units with the right size headphone jack, so I can drag it out. I've also got a boombox with a cassette deck, so I can check its outputs as well- it'd be even easier to drag out as needed.
The train I take is generally really crowded. I sometimes get a seat when I get on, sometimes halfway through, and sometimes it's so packed I stand the whole trip. It's only about a 20 minute ride, but I like to get some reading in. I take an early morning train to get in to work, so it's quiet and there are seats aplenty.
I can send email like that any time, as long as I have the materials you're looking for.

hmmrabbits are the new lolcats http://disapprovingrabbits.com
Depressed today because my favourite silly picture site has excelled itself. I'm used to turning a blind eye to things about 9/11, or Maddie, or people with Down's or Parkinson's, stuff like that... all very questionable, but whatever. But this week's newsletter I see they're selling t-shirts (same place whence Jesus&baby-dino) emblazoned with the words SWIRLY FACE MAN - who if you don't know is a paedophile who was caught after a photo he doctored to conceal his face was "unswirled" by police, who then got him. They're selling these t-shirts for £15.
I got Garden State to enjoy this afternoon. And Tapeheads is on BBC1 on Tuesday.

Tapeheads is great! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I found a used DVD at the Planet of Sound that came with the soundtrack, so now I have two copies of that, too. haven't gotten around to selling that yet.
I remember liking Garden State; in a 3 or 3.5 stars out of five kind of way.
I'll make sure to check out the hmmmrabbits, too. The more giggiles per day, the better.

I loved Garden State. Lovely story, great fun. I particularly liked when he woke up with BALLS written on his head, staring at the guy in the suit of armour staring back at him. Always enjoy Natalie Portman... some lovely shooting too, the guy's got skills. Plus he's great in Scrubs.
