Hi
psychocandy-moderation team leader Posted Mar 25, 2007
You know, I haven't had the opportunity to check Lawnmower Deth out as of yet. I haven't been online much from home till this weekend, and we're not allowed streaming media at the office at all. I'll check 'em out this morning and get right back to you.
I'm sure they'll push at least some sort of button, even if it's only the "annoy" button.
"Dury Duty"!
I'm good, otherwise. Thanks for the congrats; I'll pass them along. It sounds like Big Fun. Maybe I'll be able to watch them play this time.
How's tricks with you?
Hi
Researcher U197087 Posted Mar 26, 2007
I'm sure you'll chuckle at some of their stuff.
I'm doing okay. Spring has returned, I'm about to get paid. Chrissie Hynde is on the radio which always cheers me up... Si's birthday was Friday, we had a very profligate party which went on till about 4. I got him Dark Star, which I can't believe he'd never heard of. And we all got ripped to the tits. Mission accomplished!
Hi

Spring seems to have gone on hiatus here, for a few days anyway- it's going to be in the mid-70s today and tomorrow. My aircon still isn't working, which means my overhead fan doesn't work, either... so it's quite humid indoors at home and I've been a bit congested.
Of course, I never did get the chance to listen to anything by Lawnmower Deth yesterday, as we were expected at K's parents' home, were running late by the time he got up... and got back home an hour after I wanted to be. I'll give it a go this evening after dinner.
Profligate partying really ain't my thang these days, but I'm sure it was all very fun. I like "Dark Star". K had it on video, and I found a cheap-ish DVD a while back. Haven't watched in in a while, though. I just picked up the complete Father Ted box set and we watched about 16 episodes Saturday.
Well, I'd better get some work done. End of the month and all that noise.
Hi
psychocandy-moderation team leader Posted Mar 27, 2007
Well, one of K's relatives has been on his case about his non-attendance at church services (duh- have they not known his these past 17 years or so?). This way we can say we watched religious programming on TV instead.

Easter must be a party for you guys then. Which reminds me, this year's going to stink for Candy, I think. Her beloved's birthday, and a year since his passing, bestriding her own birthday (Easter Sunday) a week on either side. Figured you'd like to send her some good wishes around then.
And yours is still May 10th?
Hi
psychocandy-moderation team leader Posted Mar 28, 2007
Ugh, Easter. We normally don't do anything- and I certainly hope not to this year. Perhaps some nice zombie movies, though, to keep with the "ressurrection" theme.
Sounds like "stink" is an understatement- I've had years like that, and stuff like that coming rapid fire is more than a little overwhelming. I'll keep her in mind.
Hi
Researcher U197087 Posted Mar 28, 2007
Thank you. It's been just hell for her lately, not least with things happening to her home, and job and roommate problems and such.
For a resurrection fest, I have but one recommendation - Shaun Of The Dead.

Watched a Netflix last night I think you might enjoy. "Akira Kurusawa's Dreams". Now I'm a fan of Kurusawa's usual samurai films (especially his renderings of Shakespearean drama), but this is something totally different. The disc contains eight shorts, all played in order, each based on a childhood dream of Kurusawa's, many involving Japanese folklore. Beautiful cinematography, pretty and dreamlike musical score. I really think you'd enjoy it. It kept lulling me to sleep- not because I found it boring, but because it was so "dreamy".

Sounds great. Perfect both for my love of art-house, and attention-span.
Your cat is beyond cute by the by. Though I'm sure you know that already. Fallen To The Communists? Pretty!
Hi

Thanks for the cat compliments- he's a bit dim, but yeah, he really is cute most of the time. When he's not being a royal pain in the ass.
Hi

I see you've recently watched "Office Space". I found it on DVD a couple of years ago. Maybe it's because I've actually *worked* in places like that, with people like those, but some scenes made me laugh till I nearly puked. The printer-bashing, and "my stapler", for example.
I don't like Scrubs at all, though.
Oddly enough, I'm no fan of "The Office", either, and can't for the life of me put my finger on the reason why not.
Hi
Researcher U197087 Posted Apr 10, 2007
Hey, it's okay you don't like Scrubs. Freak
Well I don't know about you, but the single thing I find hateful about The Office is Ricky Gervais. I just can't stand the guy. If he wasn't in it, there could be some hope - tricky, since he co-wrote it, and has David Brent's personality and charisma in spades.
There was one moment I loved though, when the lanky one (Gareth) discovered his stapler had been set in jelly by Tim (latterly Arthur Dent). That was classic.
Have you seen Extras? What Gervais did after that, but with a ton of *really* famous people, doing self-effacing cameos. There was a good one with Ben Stiller as a frothing egomaniac director.
"Do you know who I am?"
"Starsky, or Hutch, I can't remember."
"Oh, is that supposed to be funny?"
"Well you were in it, you tell me."
Hi
psychocandy-moderation team leader Posted Apr 11, 2007
I'm not even sure I know who Ricky Gervais (or his character)is- I only watched the show a couple of times, and was able to determine that I hated it. As is usually the case- I suppose most people can tell after an episode or two whether or not something has any appeal for them.
I've never seen, nor heard of, Extras. I no longer have cable TV at home, so the only BBC-type programming I get is what's on PBS these days. Or the stuff we've got on DVD, of course. It sounds funny, though!
I hope you'll enjoy "The Science of Sleep" when you receive it. It was an improvement over "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind", only because Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey totally ruined what was otherwise a wonderful film: neither of them can act worth a shit, and there was NO chemistry between them- not a good thing in a story about a failed relationship!
Meanwhile, I anxiously await the arrival of so many films in my Netlifx queue I can't even keep track of which I want to see most any more. Anticipatory Overload, or something like that.
I'm assuming that you actually saw the theatrical "H2G2" release. I suppose that I was vaguely disappointed because I was assustomed to the lower-budget look (and the more complete "coverage") of the miniseries... but I really enjoyed it. The scene where everyone turned to a sock puppet, with the yarn vomit, cracked me up.
Hi
Researcher U197087 Posted Apr 11, 2007
I'm very much looking forward to Science Of Sleep, and I've got Eternal Sunshine taped so I'll probably check that out tonight.
I certainly did see the *first* theatrical release of H2. It sucked that they took so many liberties with the plot and the series (the whole Humma Kavula bit was treagic) but ultimately it was a great effort for a British team doing budget sci-fi (looking forward to what they've done with Sunshine), and was inevitably going to be seen as a loving tribute to Doug. I loved it all the more for that.

Hi

Well I watched Eternal Sunshine last night. Great idea, nicely shot; but yeah, the lead let the thing down. To be fair, I thought Kate did a great turn but Jim Carrey was such an absence of character it just dragged the whole story. He just doesn't do non-wacky very well.
Kurt Vonnegut passed away.
Hi
psychocandy-moderation team leader Posted Apr 12, 2007
So I heard. Bummer.
Glad someone else had the same experience with "Sunshine". Most people gripe that Winslet and Carrey were the enjoyable bits and the movie made no sense. Au contraire.
