And to be fair, it's not like I'm earning peanuts. It's just that while I think my salary is fair compensation for doing *my* job, it's not quite enough for doing two of them, if you know what I mean.

It's the reviews that do it justice

Computer is beyond fabulous. All I've done so far is adjusted the settings how I like them (Vista's a lot more impressive than I'd expected - especially the rolodex windows doodad) put on a great free starchart program I found on a magazine DVD (along with PowerDirector), and my entire mp3 collection. The rest of the time I've just been looking at it and sighing.
How are you keeping?

I don't have Vista, so I don't know about all the doodads. I don't mind XP, though I've heard nice things about Vista.
It had occurred to me I should offer to send you the software I bought with mine that's used to migrate files/programs to the new computer. It moved all of my mp3s and documents and games in about an hour... Sorry for not offering sooner.
Keeping well, thanks. We took Herman to the vet yesterday, which was an ordeal (though not as bad as the last time). I've been insanely busy at work, but I can handle it. Other than that, I can't complain- though I do wish we could trade this late August weather for actual October!

Hope things start to cool down for you guys.
Thanks for think ing of me - the programs I need to get on are mostly little freeware utilities which are easy to get, or stuff I got from friends i the first place, so it's cool. Though I'm gutted that I borked the Scrabble disc you gave me.
Busy this week - Jan's off all week, there's a slew of new GPs I've got to set up, and the quarterly audit.

You'll be needing this -

Yes!! I'd heard that was coming up, from Edward. Will listen from home. I assume this will have the "listen again" option? It'd be cool if it did, because then I could listen to the whole thing next Saturday while K's away, without neglecting anyone.
for the link!
Crappy day today- warmish, muggy, foggy and intermittent rain. The kind of day you wish you could spend on the couch in your jammies.

I haven't owned pajamas in 20 years! Sorry the weather still sucks, hope it'll soon be nice and arctic how you like it.
Tom & I are going to see Superbad tomorrow. Sounds like a laugh. Looking forward to the Ian Curtis biopic Control too, that's out Friday.

I've always done pajamas, since I've had roommates off and on over the years. Pajama pants and t-shirts, anyway.
I don't need arctic, I just prefer cool. Like 1°-13°C. I don't necessarily *like* it any colder than that. I find it easier to keep warm when it's cooler than to cool off when it's warm- especially when it's humid. You're not a fan of hot and humid though, either, if I remember correctly.
Thanks for the bookmark! It will come in handy. Since I can't access streaming media at work, it's useful to have links to stuff I can check out from home when I have quiet time to myself. Maybe I should patch into the hi-fi for this one, so K can enjoy, too, though...
People are getting on my last nerve today. More so than usual. Especially the stupid ones.

Plenty of them about, huh I was fooling about the arctic preference. Though on a nasty hot day I often dream of some January snow to lie in.
Hope you have a good fish around from that link - there are plenty of serious shows on 4 to check out too (PM, Broadcasting House, Material World...) and some decent radio plays. Last week there was one about a nun who befriends a paedophile in prison - with a nice nasty twist.
Sadly another broadcasting institution passed away yesterday, Ned Sherrin. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7023129.stm
I caught a trailer for Dirk Gently last night, Harry Enfield sounded like his old busybody character ("Only Me!"). I've got a bad feeling about this now. You don't want to do it like that.

Except that DG's been bumped (cf above link)
>>A tribute programme will be broadcast on BBC Radio 4 at 1830 BST on Wednesday.

Dammit! Hopefully it's been rescheduled.
Is it possible (or allowed) to record such broadcasts? Or are they available for purchase at some point?
Watched the extended, separate version of "Death Proof" last night. I absolutely LOVED "Grindhouse" (and we're waiting till next summer to buy, so we can get the double feature with the trailers intact). The extended version is even more enjoyable than the theatrical version, if you factor out the "grindhouse experience" thing (if you know what I mean). "Planet Terror" comes out on the 16th, so we'll rent that one then as well. It was my favorite of the two, though both get a solid five stars apiece.

I can't guarantee it'd be legal, but I don't doubt it's possible. And they're bound to be available to buy, probably five minutes after the last episode.
I expect the Grindhouse experience would be lost on me, though I like the sound of it. Look forward to it

Well, to be fair, I'm a bit young to have had the full grindhouse experience often, but the Music Box Theater does midnight grindhouse stuff every so often. Minus the sticky floors, of course.

I think we passed through, but only long enough to look in the windows of a couple of shops. Its reputation sort of speaks for itself, though. It's not so much that I feel deprived of sleazy movie houses as that it's fun to watch a double billing of really low-budget flicks, and the trailers for the even worse flicks are half the fun. There's a sort of indie movie distributor called Something Weird that put out a bunch of schlock and exploitation films (some Herschell Gordon Lewis and similar stuff) on DVD, with tons of trailers. K says "whoa, THAT looks awesome!" to just about all of them; half of time time my reaction is closer to "I'm not watching that sh!t!".

Incidentally, for what it's worth, when I asked if the radio programs were available for download/recording, I didn't mean illegally. I'm more than happy to purchase- it's just that between the time zone difference and my not being allowed to access internet radio at work, I miss a lot of cool stuff. It'd be nice to have the option to save something till I could really sit down and *listen*.

Cool. You should definitely check out Just A Minute... It's a legend of Brit light entertainment - pretty basic premise;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Just_a_Minute
I mention it because I know you like Graham Norton, he's a regular on the show and was on the most recent one. With him last week were Clement Freud (Sigmund's grandson), Gyles Brandreth (very intelligent, dry wit, recovering Tory MP) and first-timer Phill Jupitus (Never Mind The Buzzcocks, fronting the Blockheads).
Superbad was a lot of fun, hilarious in places, if American Pie by any other name. The kids involved did a great job though (and the music was FRESH). The disgusting one, Seth, is the spit of a miniature Chris Penn. If they ever decide to make a biopic, he's a shoo-in.
3.5, don't go out of your way but if you've nothing better to do, check it out.
