what? What? WHAT???????? You can order the Principia?
My GOD, I coulda sworn that the foreword on my badly-transcripted ASCII text version said that it was originally a very, very limited edition manuscript vanity published, or something, and that it only existed today thanks to scannings and type-ups.
TELL ME MORE! PLEASE!
Where can I get it from? How? How much? Why? Where? When? I'd sell my soul for a decent copy.
(Az- if you haven't read Robert Anton Wilson or Malaclypse the Younger (one of my many, many pseudonyms is Malaclypse the Even Younger), I suggest you run to a bookstore and offer sexual favours to the college grad working the till in order to get those damned books the instant you read this! Run!)

Fnord,
Hmmm. Might have to get quite imaginative with the bookstore clerk as it's really hard to find any decent books in English here. Anyhow, he'd probably just say he had it in the back room and want to be 'paid' up front (pun?) and then tell me it was all a big joke. At my expense. Do you really want to put me through this???
Better you just send me the books yourself. And then I'll quite happily read them.

Hey Fnord .
Good to see a fellow Discordian online!
Why don't you just download the text from www.principiadiscordia.com?
"Glad to be of service...."
Be seeing you,

That's a very nice online version, but it's not the same as paper which gets tatty and folded over time and charged with energy as you lend it to friends and lost and found and you can read it on the bus.
I got my copy from Steve Jackson Games, which also includes some additional later texts ("How to dial out", and stuff).
Loompanic Unltd also print it, but I found it was out of stock everywhere.
Both companies can be found with appropriate web search engines

Hmm. Looks... well, stupid, really. Perhaps I'm too tired to laugh, but it's just not that interesting. Though it's inventive, I'll give it that.
I don't know, I think it's a type of humour I can detect, but don't find particularily amusing. Like in 'Freddy got Fingered'.
And it's not really controversial either. What's the point?

Hi Jordan .
You've got to read the background really to get the point. Try the previously advertised Illuminatus Trilogy, or if you don't like fiction try Neal Wilgus's seminal text - The Illuminoids.
Once you have I'm sure that you will tune out from consensus reality and come join us nutters in the woods.
Blessings,

I guess you either get it or you don't get it. Try consulting your pineal gland. I don't think it was ever meant to be controversial, just confusing. It was an experiment to see if a religion could be created from something silly.

Aargh. Many people say that, but in my humble opinion, that's not quite right. Remember, *no-one* agrees on Discordianism, which is this sign that it's one of the truest damned lying religions out there.
1) Joke
2) Jab at religion
3) Experiment
4) Real wisdom
5) Joke. Again.
This is how it appears to me. Occasionally, quotes can be found in the Principia which are actually useful/true/interesting.
Aargh, the sequel: I love Discordianism. I think, although it doesn't describe on tenth of my full beliefs about stuff, it still is more than most of the other stuff combined, although that's not mathematically true, for obvious reasons.
HOWEVER I am often a bit ashamed to admit to being part of the movement as a whole, since 90% of all the Discordians online (one of the only real ways of free communications remaining) are merely fools who think it's funny to go around reprinting and quoting the Principia at every occasion without even thinking about the rest of it, besides the obvious jokes. They're all a bit stupid, really, but I'm not taking it too seriously, honest.

That's quite a passionate opinion :> People who blindly quote from the book remind me of people who quote from the bible lots - i.e. attention seekers. I may have paraphrased some of the parables in past conversations. I wibbled about Eris in A820559 too , and I'm adamant in not believing in anything I read or see on TV.

I'm a passionate guy. The Principia often has good stuff to say, but slavish dedication to Discordianism makes it as bad as any other religion.

Fnord,
I beg to differ - Discordianism is not a RELIGION. Rather a philosophy . . . way of life . . .

Zucchini Posted May 9, 2003
It is a philosophy. It is a religion. It is both a philosophy and a religion. It is neither a philosophy nor a religion. Mu.

What kind of a person diffrentiates bewtween a philosophy, a religion, a way of life, an ethic, and mu? Az, maybe, but personally I use all of these words more or less interchangeably, since they all mean God to people involved.

"I beg to differ - Discordianism is not a RELIGION. Rather a philosophy . . . way of life . . ."
I'd call this differentiating, wouldn't you? Alas, for the headless one is burnt.

Oh THAT! Yes, I'd call that differenciating too. So?

azahar Posted May 9, 2003
Anyhoodle, I was referring more to what other people thought about these terms. I do see a difference between a philosophy and a religion. But I don't see any difference between what various people choose to call god.

Noggin,
I've already SAID I was differentiating! Sheesh.
But only about the difference between a philosophy and a religion.
Not about differences in god.
