This is a sandwich.

Marbled rye bread, corned "beef" (made with seitan, and the taste and texture are better than the real thing), sauerkraut, grilled onion, grilled green pepper, soy cheese, and vegan Thousand Island dressing (my third favorite thing to eat in the world). smiley - drool

You'll hate them, Ivan, or at least #1, which is guacamole. #2 is pickled beets.

Of course, I didn't have the rueben. I had quesadillas: whole wheat tortilla, mashed sweet potato, seitan "chicken", spicy black beans, spinach, salsa and guacamole. With coffee so strong it could strip paint. smiley - biggrin

Incidentally, K had French toast made with cornbread and topped with lovely blueberry compote. I'm going to have to order than next time we're there, it was smiley - drool.

(and it's the veggie-version of Thousand Island that's #3, not the reuben itself, which is high on the list of favorite things but obviously not widely available...)

Sorry for the multiple postings. smiley - winkeye

And just another posting because Anold inspired me to use my rice cooker this evening for dinner. smiley - winkeye

Brown rice. Steamed carrots. And sauteed green kale with a few reconstituted dried shiitake, thinly sliced onion, garlic and daikon, with tamari and nanami togarashi powder (made from dried chili pepper, orange peel, black and white sesame seed, ginger and seaweed).

quesadillas smiley - drool my favourites contain just Monterray Jack cheese and sliced jalapenos (with some soured cream on the side for dipping.) I'm sure there's a vegan Monterray Jack equivalent PC. Quesadillas smiley - drool

Quesadillas. smiley - drool

Guacamole. smiley - yuk Things that are green and slimy aren't meant to be eaten; this rule applies to things that come out of avocadoes as much as it does to things that come out of noses.

Thousand Island dressing. Um. What's in that, anyway?

Thousand Island, the traditional (or conventional, whatever the right term would be) is made of mayonnaise, ketchup, chopped pickle, and chopped onion. Obviously store-bought stuff contains more processed ingredients. I buy a soya version (made with soymilk, sunflower oil, tomato paste, pickle relish, onion and garlic powder, and lemon juice), and the Chicago Diner appear to make their own.

It may sound vile but I think it's delicious. Of course, not even the vegan version is low-fat. smiley - laugh

Van-smeiter, I've seen vegan Monterey Jack at the grocery store, but haven't tried it yet, though we do buy a shredded soy "cheese" blend of cheddar, Jack and mozzarella flavors. It melts up nicely so it's great for chilaquiles (which are basically baked nachos- I make mine in layers like nacho lasagna).

I know of Ivan's aversion to avocados. More for me! smiley - winkeye

I ended up staying at Yarreau's an extra weekend because I didn't want to travel with that.

And it was perfect sledding weather, too! smiley - blue

well I'm deffo staying out of here then, you're all unclean!

And match that with the bloke at work who I swear has brought bird flu back from his holidays and friends who have young kids and now going down everything they've caught of their friends...

I'll be lucky if I see the end of Jan smiley - smiley

But at the moment I'm fine, apart from my shoulder.

Did you already mention what was wrong with your shoulder, and I missed it (or forgot)?

I'm all well now, thankfully. Friends and co-workers with young kids are usually my source for all sorts of nasties. But I haven't had anything gross, except for that 24-hour thing last Sunday, since 2006. Not even a cold.

not sure, probably. It's not been right since I had to drop the bike (thinks, um) a year or so ago. Clicks and grinds and aches and 'feels funny'. Probably going to drop off at some point smiley - biggrin

i've been assured and reassured by several orthopaedic surgeons, regular GPs, sports therapists and masseurs and that there is nothing wrong with popping and clicking joints, per se.

However, if it doesn't feel right then you might want to have the dam thing looked at - although you may find you have a foreign object (a sliver of bone or cartilage) inside the joint, causing you the pain, which will require arthroscopic surgery (if you're lucky) to remove it.

Afterwards, I highly recommend avoiding cycling or biking, but swimming is very good. After 3 months or so, that is.
