Terri is far from offline; merely trying to track down ex lovers for PC's other thread & has got lost in Google land!
Can't even remember which thread it was; the one with the Au Pairs on...managed to lose my posting with all the trekking around
Hope Herman has recovered from the trauma; your arm will just have to suffer, this is the price we pay for pets. Skanky is stinky & will have to be bathed soon, wish me!

'Twas on your "Eye Dunno" thread, m'love!
Arms are fine, is fine, PC is having a glass of she doesn't much care for (Rhone, never had it before, kinda overbearing flavor, can't put my finger on what it is..), and Herman is lying sprawled out on the brand new 4'X6' rust-orange rug we got for the dining room (which isn't used for dining, but for important stuff, like CD and movie storage, of course!).
I really don't like this wine. Thankfully it was only $3.99. It's awful.

I've never tried to bath Micio, I think it would be most unwise!!! Luckily she keeps herself pretty darn clean.

I will see about making some kind of exotic pasta sauce or something... barring that, a nice olive oil vinaigrette with garlic and thyme and freshly ground pepper.
Poor finger. Which one is it? How is it feeling now?
JEllen, Herman's never had a bath before, either, but he managed to tear apart a catnip mouse, eat the catnip, vomit it back up, and then roll around in it. So he needed to be rinsed off, at least. He's soft and fluffy now, I used conditioner.

How about French Onion Soup?
Slice onions. Cook gently but for a long time in olive oil until brown (they should be soft, not crisp). Add stock and wine. If desired, top with a bit of toast and swiss cheese and melt under the grill (US = broiler; In my house, thanks to my mum = gorilla)
And the French way to eat it is to tip some more wine into the bowl as you empty it.
Having said that...bad wine will give you bad food.

Or...Cypriot potatoes.
Take some new potatoes. Hit them with a mallet or similar, (seriously!) so that they crack. Cook them in red wine with crushed coriander (seeds), salt and pepper. Just a little wine, to cover, and let it evaporate.
Wine quality probably isn't an issue. We're talking Cyprus here!
Hmmm...do USAnians call them 'coriander seeds' or 'cilantro seeds'?

The seeds are aoriander, it's the leaves that are cilantro.
I don't think the wine is off, I just don't like the way it tastes. I'm gonna try a sip when I get home, it might've just been following a really sweet wine with something drier and fuller? Never had Rhone before... what made it taste so strong and pungent?
I think we'll do the French onion soup... I've got some par-baked baquettes at home and can easily grab some cheese on the way home from work. Thanks for the suggestion!!

"aoriander"?
Sigh.
"coriander"

Needless to say, I'm nervous this morning. Today, I should find out if I got the other job or not. And one of the property accountants who I get on with told me who the other person in the running is. I think it's a fair fight. I also overheard that person on the phone (she was using mine) call her agency and ask them what the repercussions would be if she were to leave today as opposed to Friday, when her contract ends. So maybe there's a better chance than I think? I dunno. I'm speculating and ruminating obsessively about it, of course. But lots of good words have been put in for me, and with you lot pulling for me, I'm sure everything will work out for the best!

Hmm. There are good Rhones...and a lot of bad ones. I tend to stick with Chileans and Argentinians. I seldom venture Frenchwards because I find big, beefy wines from hotter regions more to my taste. But my local Oddbins has had some good Saturday tastings recently, so I ended up with a bottle of Anjou which was much lighter than what I normally drink. Anyway, it went down a treat with Bob last night
Just like a mattress balances on a bottle of wine

I'm usually more keen on Chilean and Spanish reds. I don't mind a Beaujolais (sp?) or a nice Syrah, but the shop was out so I tried something new. Yucky.
Heard back from the VP of Finance, they've decided not to hire anyone for the position but to shuffle and redesignate the resonsibilities to various existing employees who have light workloads.
They'll keep me in mind for future openings in accounts payable and also for administrative openings. Whoopie!
It's not that they won't renew my current contract, it's just that the pay isn't as good as I'd like, and I need the benefits. So hopefully something else will open up soon.

Meh, I'll live. It could be worse. Thanks for the encouragement, though.
The up side is that I'm no longer pressed to finish the spread sheets I've fallen behind on before the end of this week.

Well; at least it's an administrative thing rather than a personal rejection thing; so as you say, just smile sweetly & do less work than before. And keep looking around for a better job.

Oh, how nice! I will check out the Uspace! I kinda miss being an ACE, you know... handed in my badge a couple of years ago and have regretted it often since.
Yes, Terri, it's not a personal rejection- job stuff seldom is. I'll just work through my contract and wait for them to need another property accountant down there, in which case I'm in like Flynn. If not, then at the end of January, I ask for another contract elsewhere. I'm a temp-to-hire anyway, so it's just a matter of time.
Thanks so much to all of you for your continued moral support and encouragement. The sooner I get a promotion, the sooner K and I can pay a visit to Angouleme. And Seville. And...
