I had a terrier mix that had the same symptoms as Snowy beginning at the age of 14 or 15. The vet said it was a pinched nerve due to inflammation from arthritis. We gave him homeopathic remedies, vitamins, massages and even had accupuncture done to him. Usually, after a day or two of not being able to stand on his own the inflammation would subside and he would be able to stand and walk on his own.

Our dog Kipp went on his own, in his sleep. He was a tough little sheltie, had already survived a bump from a car and what we think might have been a stroke. Kept his tail wagging until the end.
Funny thing is, I think he knew when it was OK to go- I had moved away, my brother had started driving and was worried about hitting him, and my dad knew he was going to have to put him down, but didn't want to.

Good news
With a little help she has managed to stand and limp around the garden before collaspsing again, so it may be just the damp weather thats effecting her

I think the key phrase from that post which you are all ignoring is "before collapsing again". The day we brought our dog home from the vets he somehow managed to get out of the garage and make it halfway to the house. We were so proud of him because we thought that he was getting better, but it actually made him worse.

Our little terrier mix managed almost three years with only a few bouts of being off his paws. He made it to the respectable age of 17.
I think the worse part was that the medicine (steroid based anti inflammatory) the vet gave him only made him feel worse from the allergic reaction he had to it. After that, the vet was totally at a loss as to how to proceed. With the vet's consent and co operation, we chose the alternative medicine route, which worked for us.

It can be sad when medicine fails whether on a human or animal.
I feel Snowy will be up and about before too long...even if it means Cal has to tie her up to a mini moto to help her get around

I think sticking her on a pair of wheels would be quite cruel
She's 14 years old, and she's done her stint, she should have to put up with being messed about with any more, I want her to go with some dignity
Because thats what Ryan would've wanted too, and she is his dog after all

sorry...I was just trying to lighten the thread a little...
We had to have Blondie put to sleep...similar circumstances. Brought home bad memories so tried to lighten the thread. Again Sorry
