Jtg, I came here to check you'd been ACEd, after I saw your post up at Peer Review.
The url for the Lost Poetry Office is A433793 and your poem for your Dad was/is beautiful.

We are almost the same age, I'm 46, I live south of you, in Lincolnshire on the coast. My sister is with a man from Newcastle, but before she even met him, 2 of her 3 children supported Newcastle United and I remember buying my nephew black & white-striped pyjamas when he was a nipper, which weren't hard to find considering the local team round here is Grimsby Town.smiley - biggrin

You're a Freemason?
I'm impressed.
Can you tell me who Jack the Ripper was?
My entry on him was just selected for the Guide A704567 {here is the Peer Review thread if you would like to read it}
F84504?thread=168524
as it's now been edited I can't alter it, as it belongs to the BBC, but I would be grategul for your thoughts/input, as I never did solve the crime and I'm gutted that I didn't.

If you like the smiley - piratesmiley then you really should get a cabin at the Blood of the Zaphodistas, Piercesmiley - piratewill make you most welcome. F70774?thread=130423&latest=1 post there that you'd like a cabin, then click on "New Conversation" and type your cabin title in the subject box, as once this has been done, it won't alter in your message centre even if the subject changes later. Here is my cabin as an example: F70774?thread=136552&post=1837229#p1837229

You're on cable tv?
smiley - yikes
My commiserations.smiley - hug
There's a lot of h2g2 that you can't access, which is a shame.
smiley - sadface
If you want a bit of advice, buy yourself a computer....smiley - tongueout

Then you'll have a mouse to navigate smiley - tongueout

Sokay GB.. I'm the 'Cruise Director' on 'The Blood'. I'm one of the nuts myself. smiley - biggrin

Jtg obviously a cable connx. to the internet works differently on that side of the pond. smiley - erm I don't know anything about it.

I've also read Bill Bryson's books(A Walk In The Woods, I'm A Stranger Here Myself and one that has escaped me). Very good books. If you like those books there is a Douglas Adams book you'll like as well. It is a non-fiction work. A travelogue called 'Last Chance to See'. His style is quite similar to Bill Bryson's. Though I like DNA's books I'm not necessarily a sci-fi reader. Though I have read all of his books and enjoy them, it's the humor I enjoy most.

Currently I am reading 'The Makioka Sisters' by Junichiro Tanizake. I also enjoy 'study reading', but cannot use such books as commuter reading because I like to mark up the book as I read it so I can refer to it later. Presently I'm re-reading (for the nth time) 'A Brief History of Time' at the same time as 'The Makioka Sisters', but this is a new updated version so I'm reading the whole book rather than just glancing at what I had previously read.

I have a very dear friend who is a freemason. Unfortunately he is not on hootoo. smiley - sadface Actually your learning the didjeridhu (I cut/pasted that, I always wondered how it was spelled smiley - biggrin) reminds me of him. He is forever learning new instruments and studying philosophies and the like. I miss him terribly since my move to NYC.

I have broad tastes in music as well. I like all except Country/Western. I grew up primarily in Texas so I think I may have ODed on it. I listen mostly to modern fusions (and jazz) these days. Especially intercultural fusions like Sacred Spirit, Alabina, etc. The combinations of the different music types is very interesting (IMHO anyway).

Finally I also like smiley - dogs. Mine is a golden retriever. However when I moved to NYC I didn't have the heart to bring her just to keep her locked in a flat all day alone. She used to go to the office with me every day before I moved so that made it even more cruel an idea. She is happily frolicking at her grandmother's house in Charlotte NC, where my step-father (who once insisted dogs belong outside) is spoiling her rotten and destroying all her wonderful training by teaching her to pick pockets! She used to be a therapy dog when she lived with me, one of the dogs that go to nursing homes and hospitals to visit.

If you go to 'The Blood' please stop by my office onboard and say 'hi'. smiley - cheers

'Last Chance to See'smiley - ok
You're reading 'Brief History of Time'?smiley - wow
That's hard going, have you read Professor Hawking's new book?
'The Universe in a Nutshell' I think it's called...
I'm saving that for when I grow tired of h2g2.

smiley - winkeye

Jtg, do yourself a favour and buy yourself a pc.
But be warned, you may never see the outside world again!
smiley - biggrin
However you will make some great friends.

Batty passed on your message to me, thanks.
smiley - ok

*glares at Batty*
I hope you didn't include John Denver in your dislike of Country/Western...I just had an entry on him picked for inclusion in the Guide smiley - blush
smiley - biggrin
I must say I didn't like the rowdy songs he did, but his love songs...smiley - loveblush
And I like Crystal Gayle...smiley - bigeyes
I wonder if she still has hair down to her feet.
Imagine a bad hair day in her house!
smiley - yikes

Thanks GB. I haven't read this book of Hawking's yet. It is definitely on my 'to do list' though. smiley - biggrin There's also a good book by Bob Ballard that I'm wanting to read if I can ever remember the title and such when I go to the library. *mumbles that she thinks it's something to do with darkness*

re- John Denver I've always thought of him as more 'folk music' than C&W. But again the C&W thing with me springs from way to much of it when I was growing up. That and I worked at Tony Lama Boot Co. when I was in college (and hated it smiley - yuk bad bad job). C&W gives me Tony Lama flashbacks! smiley - yikes
