A note from an ancient old Vicar (?)

Post 1

Rev Nick { Only the dead are without fear }

I have seen you around a lot of the games and threads of Lil and Cal over the many months. And briefly a "Kitchen" established during the March for Jack. All of it since my other, and first, personna of U673784 faded into obscurity. (Superceded, you might say ...)

In any case, you're welcome to browse my PS or the original, see generally who and what I am by the friends I keep, the places I stroll. And if you ever think you might want another friend, of the older generation, but still with some fun and life, or serious discourse, you know where to find me.

And if you look at the 'fine print' at the end of my PS, you'll see an e-mail address is also avaialble.

Do have a fine week-end, Lady.

Life is fine now, me and Alex have sorted out our differences, she's staying with her dad for a week so things are quiet. How's you?

At home, working myself to exhaustion building a new office/library/PC-room in our basement. At work, going slightly more bonkers than is my normal, trying to fix some radio thingies that are likely older than half of hootoo's population. smiley - laugh

Don't I just know how to have a great ol' time, eh?

Quiet hours are a fine time to catch up on the hand-crafts. Well, for some people, ...

Many, MANY years ago, a grandfather encouraged me to try my hand at knitting and crocheting. As an old farmer, he felt that every lad should be as fully self-sufficient as possible. Which natually includes all the house, home and personal needs. Well, I really only learned one thing ... at 12'ish, I had no patience or consistency. Imagine a scarf where no two 'stitches' had the same tension. smiley - laugh

I knitted myself a handbag when I was on holiday, my other half is an accompished Cross Stitcher, which for a man is good going, he used to be in the Army so he's good at looking after himself, my ex husbands dad taught him to iron which was much apreciated when I was married

My 21 years of military time made sure that I could wash, sew and iron any clothing. My being single a number of years, and then a useless first wife assured my skills in a kitchen. And just for personal interest, I have made myself quite adequate at needle-point, cross-stitch, plastic-canvas & yarn creations, and hooked rugs.

One of the nicer things I've done is a fully furnished, 3-dimensional, 2 bedroom house of plastic canvas. For my daughter when she was about 10. Including the water appliances, the siding, brick-work and roof shingles, it all turned out very well, and is still looking quite good. smiley - smiley

Some of it comes from necessity, and probably the rest from having enough years already to try a lot of stuff.

And I'm never afraid to try something new. We bought our first house nearly 6 years ago. Since then, I've wired in a number of permanent lights. I replaced a tiled bath-tub surround, and it's faucets and piping with a fibre-glass surround and a washerless single-knob control. I've lost track of how many changes and enhancements. The most recent is a new room in the basement, wired for electric, phone and broadband. To move our entire library, office and PC stuff into. It's taken me 3 weeks of spare time so far, but the first book shelves ARE up and ready to be loaded.

Well done that man smiley - applause

I've learned to rewire a plug, hang wallpaper, Nail, screw and drill things, I built my daughters Cabin Bed and fitted a shower screen cos there's no man in the house, although we do play 'Defencless Women' to the builders across the road when we get serious problems

Heh heh heh, if I play defenceless man, would you hang paper here? That is one thing I detest and am no good at what-so-ever. Fortunately, we mostly paint ...

Post 16

Reefgirl (Brunel Baby)

We paint mostly or get a proper decorater in

A note from an ancient old Vicar (?)

Post 17

Rev Nick { Only the dead are without fear }

And that's why we paint. Primer, paint and brushes and rollers for a room might cost us about 30 or so UK pounds, ... a pro would be a lot more. And these nasty things called budget, mortage, heat, water, light, ..... they always wanna take up our money. smiley - erm

What's the perrenial stomp and storm? It's not fair !!! smiley - laughsmiley - laughsmiley - laugh

Post 19

Rev Nick { Only the dead are without fear }

Only? I had more than a plenty of grief trying to do a dinky little kitchen for my first mother-in-law. Mind you, with her constant "advice", and my first crack at it, maybe it wasn't a great combination....

Dad was the paperer in our house but some of the rooms need paper rater than paint, we live in an Edwardian Terraced house, so Paint on the walls doesn't look nice in some rooms
