There's was a big Scottish influence on today.

I've been working a 4 day week for over a year now, and I have to admit I love it! One of the advantages is I can get to the Advanced Scottish dance class which takes place on the second Wednesday morning if each month. We had 20 dancers there today- potentially the 20 best dancers of the genre in the Belfast region. It means we can try trickier dances, we can get through a lot of them cos we don't need too much walking through, and everyone feels they've spent time enjoying their dancing.

Lunch with husband at stepping stones, which is a cafe enterprise that employs and trains Young people with learning disabilities. R's son was lucky enough to get a place here when he left school last year, and he always has a big smile when he sees us come through the door, and takes great pride in serving us. I had melted Brie on wheaten bread with spiced apple relish, which was just gorgeous!

Shopping trip to tesco and found they had a Welsh whisky ( whiskey?) at half price. It had a lovely sweet nose, an interesting complexity and a vanilla finish. Since it comes in a fancy boxed package, I may get one for my dads Christmas present. He likes to have some unusual whiskies in his cabinet to offer discerning visitors 🐶

You can call me TC

Welsh whisky is probably spelt cwlludmawrfyddcwesclir but still pronounced whisky.

(Sincere apologies to all Welsh speakers; I would hate it if someone did that in German)

Sho - employed again!

Bea - do you work compressed hours, or have you managed the holy grail and managed to reduce your hours without your employer having an attack of the vapours that would make my great-grandmother proud?

Not compressed hours, I'm 80% FTE.

The volume of work has reduced where I am, so it suited my employer too. Plus they get to claim it as an efficiency saving.

If and when I get a different posting, I'll probably have to go back to a 5 day week, but that's fine.

I do know someone in a similar position who managed to transfer while keeping her 80% Bea, so never say never! It did take a wee bit of prodding.

Hullo Beatrice! The Advanced Scottish dancing sounds good! Lots of fancy footwork? I've never tried Scottish dancing, but it always looks very complex.

My parents met at a Scottish dance, way back when. Must have been my Dad's kilt that attracted my mother, haha, although he was a really good dancer, did all the leapy twirly bits.

cc smiley - ok

There are some countries that probably don't have any Scottish dances. You were lucky that your parents did not have to travel far to attend one. And you are lucky, too....

Kilts do tend to have a certain magnetic quailty!

The country dance steps aren't really that difficult - some of the moves like "the espagnole" or "the tourbillion" aren't well known, but anyone who knows their right from their left hand, can count in time to the music, and can do a "step close step hop" could manage them.

I was enjoying Len Goodman's guide to the history of dancing last night - some of the old maypole country dances are similar to what I do, but the minuet looked very tricky.
