Cold Snap ......
Posted Dec 10, 2008
I don't mind winter - if I'm in the house when it's happening but this past week or so we've been having a cold snap and I'm having to go to work.
I was frozen out of the car twice last week. The first day I had the foresight to bring a bottle of hot tap water with me to the car and managed to get in the passenger side and then the driver's door wouldn't open I had to clamber over the gearstick/handbrake island into my seat. Now I'm not built for doing that - I'm no Daisy Duke - but after much puffing and blowing I made it and got to work - by which time the driver's door was unfrozen and I managed to get out without any incident.
Two days later I was in much the same position - this time the only door I could get opened was the boot. From there I managed to get a roll of Christmas wrapping paper and unlock the back passenger side door. From there I managed to open the front passenger door. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the driver's door lock to budge. Again I had to clamber over the obstacles and into my seat. Even more unfortunately, this time the lock had not defrosted by the time I got to work so I had the indignity of trying to do it all in reverse while parked outside the office.
Yesterday the demon black ice paid a visit and daughter had warned me about the path but I assumed it would have started to melt by the time I was due to leave for work. I assumed wrongly.
I took one step out of the house ...... right foot went sliding off, tried to bring the left foot into play to restore balance - it had other ideas and slipped off to the left. Instructed right foot to take purchase slightly in front of me to prevent an undignified attempt at the splits ..... it wasn't having it and headed for the garden gate, thankfully left foot agreed to be dragged along behind.
Made it to the garden gate ..... you've seen Jane Torville, well I looked nothing like that.
I won't bore you with the details of the treacherous 30 yards or so to the car but it was more dancing on ice stuff - but joy of joys the key worked and I was able to sit in the car for a while to regain my composure before heading to work (although I was still shaking when I got there).
I'm inclined to say ... wake me up when the sun comes back - but over here that could be quite a while. I find it hard to believe that only a few years ago I was a kid and loving all that sliding about stuff.

Confused ... no that's just me.

Coming online this afternoon I was surprised to see a couple of comments on an entry I wrote nearly 2 yrs ago.
I responded to the comments and went about my busines catching up with a backlog of posts.
I then went to the front page to take a look at todays entries .... cabbages was quick, well done BigAll. That German caper was great - loved it to bits Mala - should be a movie.
It was when I got to the third entry ..... Platypus .... that I realised why the sudden interest.
This is the first time any of my old entries have had a re-run on the front page and it was a great surprise and gave me a laugh indeed.

Feeling fiesty .......
Posted Nov 30, 2008
It's a very sunny .... if somewhat cold and frosty .... Sunday morning and I'm feeling fiesty.
I feel rather like my old self and am in the mood for ..... mmmm ..... stirring things up .....
I want to do stuff ..... not just in the house, but here too ..... the place seems very quiet so I'm going to do what any minx would and make some noise.
*gets klaxon*

Ghost Tour 2008
Posted Oct 29, 2008
I'm just having a brief rest before things go crazy in preparation for tonights ghost tour.
We went last year and had such a good time we booked again for this years tour. Sazzle is bringing some friends from school and for one of them (a Muslim) this will be the first time she has participated in halloween type fun.
Sazzle has borrowed a wedding dress from our costume dept at amdram and she is going as the corpse bride.
They're all dressing up ... but I'm going to be sensible - it's snowing here.
We'll be driven around Belfast in an old double decker bus - a real relic from the 1960s - which will be suitably furnished for halloween.
The conductor will regale us with ghost stories as we drive around the city looking at the most haunted sites before delivering us to the oldest graveyard in Belfast. There we will visit mass graves of the famine and the plague victims and be further frightened by strange tales of the occult, body-snatching and untimely deaths.
We will then board the bus again and sing-a-long to happy tunes like Ghostbusters on the way back to the city centre. Further yarns will be spun and we'll go to one of the oldest buildings in the city to be entranced for another while by a vampire in one of the upper rooms.
By that time we'll be all screamed out and ready for home - I hope.
I can't wait.
