After she saw the picture of my new haircut, Amy+ informed me that I forgot to mention that I got new glasses.
So I'll mention it right now:
I got new glasses last week.
Better now?
Oh, you want details?
Ok, if you insist.
The eye checked my eyes and said the distance vision was only slightly worse, but the near vision needed to be bumped up a good bit. No wonder I was having so much trouble refocusing when I would do some kind of close work for a long time, then look at something in the distance - I think it would take me at least 5-10 minutes to be able to focus again, even *with* my old glasses.
They're the flexon type frame, again. Looked at a bunch of different frames, but I've been spoiled by glasses that are so lightweight and require so little adjustment to be comfortable. Of course they're lots more expensive, but if I'm going to be stuck with these frames for the next two years (insurance only helps out on the cost that often), I want to make sure they're something I can live with for two years, instead of something I'll hate after a few weeks.
I found a bunch of my old eyeglasses in a drawer and dropped them off at a Lions Club eyeglass box in the grocery store the other day - been meaning to do that for years, but when I'd locate my old glasses, they didn't seem to have a drop off box available for some reason, and when I'd notice that they had a drop off box, I couldn't locate the glasses. Finally managed to coordinate things and get rid of the old glasses.

Are you now wearing bifocals, Lady Scott?
I have a love-hate relationship with bifocals.
They're fine for driving and watching movies.
I hate them for close work, so I have a second
pair just for womputer work and reading.

I hate to just toss out something that's perfectly good, so I'm glad they can use them for someone who needs glasses but can't afford them.
Perhaps I could reuse them myself, but every time you try to *not* get new frames when you get new glasses, they tell you that they can't guarantee that the frames won't break when they put the new lenses in them. Then, unless you find a new pair of frames that are the exact same size/shape or smaller, you'd be stuck having to pay for the lenses all over again, as well as new frames. Since the insurance is kicking in on at least part of the cost, it just seems more logical to get all new glasses.

Some charities in the UK regrade glasses and send them out to poorer countries as the NHS will pay for people who can't otherwise afford them here

I'm sorry, Paul - I didn't even see your posts there.
Guess the new glasses didn't help a bit!
Yes, I've been wearing bifocals for a few years now. Tried them with lines, and then without. I prefer the ones without lines.
I don't recall having problems with close work with the bifocals, except for the re-focusing problems that I mentioned earlier, which have been fixed by the new prescription.

As long as your problems were fixed, that's what
counts.
And speaking of counting: when I'm tired and
can't get to sleep, it's too much effort to
count sheep. Why can't we get sheep that count
themselves?

I suppose you could get some mechanical that counted themselves. Or at least one that did the counting for you.

I did it the other way around - but that's only because that's the way the appointments worked out. I had to wait a full two weeks to get the haircut appointment because she was so busy, but the eye place was able to get me in the very next day.
