What on earth was all that about?

I can probably come up with a geek code
if I spend some time at it. We'll see.
Was there something else you wanted to say, Lady Scott?
Do you object to my use of potholes in my user name?
That's easily changed, but what exactly did you
not like about my potholes? I find that every time
I drop some part of my user name, some other researcher
gets upset. Dragonfly got upset one time when I dropped
"Saint" or "Muse" (I don't remember which). Lord Preston
complained when I dropped "OMFC," but all that is moot
now that Mark Moxon has left H2G2 anyway.

Lady Scott did it to me, too, Paul.
I think Toffee's spirit has taken over
Lady Scott. Let me see if I can
find an exorcist to banish the demon
and restore Lady Scott to the nice person
she used to be.

Were you possessed, or weren't you, Lady Scott?
I came to your space expecting Snow White, and
got Leona Helmsley instead.

I changed some things... does it seem less evil now?

Yes, it does, somewhat.
This will all blow over and be
forgotten eventually. Just like these
winter storms that we keep getting.
I have a new plan for getting rid of the
extra stuff that's crowding my house.
What on earth was all that about?
Lady Scott Posted Mar 8, 2003
That didn't sound too positive... what still bothers you about it?
The snow will go away... eventually....
So how are you going to get rid of the excess stuff that's crowding your house?

It's hard for me to feel positive
about very much this time of year,
Lady Scott. Most of the bad stuff
that happens to me happens in February
and/or March. If my car gets in an accident
(which has happened two or three times),
it's usually this time of year, so I have
to walk home from work, in the snow,
along a busy highway that hasn't any
shovelled-out sidewalks.
When a bicycle hit me, breaking my left
elbow, it was in early March. When my
roof collapsed, dumping 20 gallons of melted
snow on my dining room table, it was Feb. 17.
My new method of housecleaning is to aim for at least
two bags full of trash to be taken to the dumpster
every time I drive anywhere. This forces me to
consider what I can live without at least once
a day.

I'm really sorry about all that bad stuff happening to you at this time of year, Paul, but looking back over your list, I noticed that they pretty much had one thing in common - winter weather (with the possible exception of when you were hit by the bicycle).
I'm sure most car accidents happen during the winter when there's ice and snow on the roads, rather than in the summertime when we have longer days, and dry (or merely wet) roads. The fact that you have to walk home from the accidents in the snow and ice just goes along with the weather conditions that probably were a large cause of the accident (although I'd suggest getting a cell phone so you could call a cab and not have to walk home in the snow).
I don't know about the bicycle accident, but that may have been attributable to winter weather too.
As far as the ice and snow melt collapsing your roof onto your dining room table - again, winter weather.
I know that doesn't help any... and you probably were already well aware that they all had wintry weather in common...
*must think of something to make this time of year more tolerable for Paul*
Here's what we do: Ban winter weather! It's the root of all your bad wintertime experiences!
Hey, that sounds really good - taking 2 bags of trash to the dumpster on every trip out of your place should clear out the excess in short order! Now... if I could convince myself to be so motivated and ruthless, at least I'd clear out *my* excess junk in a hurry...

I've been at it for almost a month, but
there's still a lot of trash to get rid of.
Still, every little bit helps.

Lady Scott Posted Mar 8, 2003
You must need bigger trash bags...
Of course those are a good bit harder to fill, and a good bit harder to sling over the top of the dumpster....
You might end up hurting your back or something and then the stuff would go back to building up in your house (I think it multiplies at night), while you recover.
On second though, just keep at it the way you're doing, you'll get to the end of it eventually.

There's *almost* emough room to
sit on the sofa now. If I can get *to*
the sofa. I don't have an outside storage shed,
so the lawnmower sits in the middle of the living
room floor. I'm hoping to clear the empty
boxes off the 50-gallon aquarium and put the
lawnmower on top of the aquarium.
I haven't used any flannel sheets in years
(they aren't needed any more because I have
some super quilts and bedspreads and duvets),
so I'm looking to get rid of those.

Well, not any living
There are one or two dead fish still on the bottom
of the 30-gallon aquarium.
I'm deeply lazy.

I won't lecture you on it... They eventually decompose and feed any live plants in there
I have to wonder though if you've still got a filter running in it, though.
