Wo, Trout
Courtesy of the Intruder, I now have HotWi10.5C (Thanks, Dad!)
So far, I've just looked at the one relevant chapter.
Gripping stuff, but either he's making it up, or I am.
Oh, right, I remember now. I am, yeah.
Oddly enough, I reckon that Jools' version might just be straight enough for the EG.
But only if he gave it a brain-freeze title.

Might have to read it again myself. I was young and foolish first time. I was just looking for a story with a start finish and end. At the time I thought it was just a load of pretentious crap. Hopefully, I'm more appreciative now.

PS - how did you earn your Post badge?

It just appeared. I was a Post regular for about three months end of 2001, then I stood down till Shazz asked if they could have the Mating Habits thing, January this year, I think.
About two weeks later, there it was.

In view of the subject matter, how about "Up a Creek Without A Paddle"
Or
"In memory of David Livingstone"*
(*whose epic ill-fated attempt to canoe UP(?) the Zambezi failed, some might say wilfully on Livingstone's part, to take into account Cahora Bassa (I think), resulting in the expedition being smashed on the rocks.)
Appeasement. Hmmm. I have in my hand a piece of paper. Maybe not.

You're on holiday or something, aren't you?
(God, it's boring round here at the minute...)
There was a piece on Today/R4 this morning about some guys trying to find the remains of the Beagle, send to the breakers c. 1870-something
in Essex.
It'll probably be there on BBCi if you're feeling masochistic.

That's some itinerary.
I'm not jealous though. (Well, Melbourne, p'raps...)
Hey, I just read Zola in the Post. You are a class act, Trout.
If you don't get that badge now, I'm going to ask Shazz to transfer mine.
(Daresay Ranieri can afford it )

"I don't". Do. You do...
...!...
I meant that particular piece was crap.
In fact I feel a compulsion to make excuses for writing/posting such execrable ordure.
There's this really annoying guy I know, see, and he had the temerity to show me this vile little pamphlet entitled "Men and Sheds", and I was in the middle of a good winge about not getting published in spite of being an obvious genius, and he said "No, no, no you've got to be commercial", in a manner that would have gone over quite well in a Harry Enfield sketch, and he held the aforementioned up as an example of the genre, what I should be essaying if I want to get on, etc.
So this is what I think sheds are really like.
Dead.
F*ck sheds, basically...
...Thanks. I feel better now.
Hey. You're writing some st-range stuff yourself at the minute. What you on?

Yeah, sheds. F**k em.
I once had a copy of a photograph of a green shed, in, it seems, the middle of an English wood in the verdant height of summer. Someone had sprayed on it "I HATE GREEN". Still tickles me to think of it.
My stuff. Point taken. I'm making the effort to write down something/anything every day ... crap and all. You never know, something good may come of it.
Mostly Pinotage by the way.

PS - Got my hands full with telegraph fantasy football right now. Gonna have to do a 1st div side. Any tips out of sheffield ... Tonge ... what's he?
Wot Ho, Trout!
Pinniped Posted Aug 13, 2003
Tonge...midfield obviously. Slightly fragile. Will score a few but not floods. Can sometimes get rucked out of games, but as often as not it's his pass puts the scorer through.
It's hard to pick a Blade star because they're so very much a team. I guess everyone would say Michael Brown, though he's injured at the moment and transfer's still likely. He's the clear playmaker.
Jagielka at the back's also a class act. Montgomery too. Lester, new from Forest, looks an asset.
You know GreyDesk? He'll have an opinion.
Wot Ho, Trout!
Trout Montague Posted Aug 14, 2003
All right - thanks for that.
I'm already committed to Reading's Nicky Forster upfront. Maybe the Blades offer more defensive options ...
Trout
PS - like the Kafka thing. Did you really get through 20 pages ...
