Most people talk about dramas and science fiction - they're great, don't get me wrong - but few folks discuss detective drama. It's great to find a fellow appreciator.

I loved Morse from the outset years ago, with his thoughtful process; what do you think of Lewis, the spin-off? Same idea, just a bit more tongue in cheek. I think Poirot is better than Miss Marple, but that might be the continental feel and the sharp confidence. Peter Pascoe's just so patient with his boss

I know!!! Thinki if I was Pascoe, I'd have got fed up with Dalziel ages ago.

Love Lewis. Different to Morse, but still the same. Glad he gets to be the boss now. Morse gave him such a hard time. But I was still sad when he died.

Did an article a couple of years ago on detectives. juat jokey thing though.

I agree with your article, given the reputations of some of these characters, it's a wonder anyone goes on holiday anywhere in the vicinity of Jessica Fletcher or Miss Marple

I don't know if you'd call "detective", but also like Wire in the Blood, with Robson Green as a clinical psychologist working with the police. I think it falls half-way between police drama and detective series.

Think I've heard of that one, but never got rouind to watching it. I'm sure it's a good one too. Something like Silent Witness or CSI coz it's about the pathology etc then?

Not pathology or physical evidence, like CSI, but psychology (do you remember that old BT advert with Maureen Lipman? "he's got an 'ology"). He looks at their behaviour, background, mannerisms and things. If you get chance, give it a try.

Will do. It's interesting to get that other angle. In all the other detectives, you maybe get to hear the path guys telling them something vital, but that's about it.

It's perhaps more detective-like because he doesn't actually work for the police, he's a professor at the local university. He gets called on to help if they have a more difficult case that can't be solved by regular policing, so he becomes the driving force for the case, becomes the detective.

In case you were interested, a new series of Wire in the Blood starts tomorrow night (Friday) on ITV, at least, it does here in Scotland. If you watch it, I'd be interested to know what you think.

Unfortunately I was out on Friday and hardly had the chance to check out the tv. Did you get it yourself??

Yes, we watched it. It's a two-part episode about the apparent honour killing of a young kurdish woman and the investigation revealing other murders of the same style, pointing towards the killer being mentally disturbed, but we don't know how or why yet. Also involves BDSM and trust-awareness in relationships.

The whole series is two-parters, so if you're busy working it might be difficult to follow the plots. Hope you get to see it though.

Yeah. Sounds likre it should be good. Might be able to catch up a bit with repeats or hiring a DVD from the library or something.

That plot line sounded kinda scary though. Very "now" with the current political not-so-fun stuff going on.

They've got a few new Poirot's on at the moment. Did you get that one last week??

The two-parter Peril and End House? I missed part two but had seen it before, the threat to the life of the young heiress, about to inherit from both fiance and wealthy uncle. Suchet makes a great Poirot, but I also liked Peter Ustinov even though he doesn't quite have the appearance portrayed by Agatha Christie.

Think I only saw one or two Ustinov ones. Definately prefer david Suchet. He just seems to capture the part. Heard him talking about it once and he seemed to have put in a lot of work in perfecting the accent and the walk and all those little details.
