My Space
Hello.
I'm EMA and I'm a first year Mechanical Engineering Student at Bristol University.
I am living in Goldney Hall, one of Bristol University's ten Halls of Residence. Goldney is described as 'the best hall of residence in the world' by its residents and all the unlucky people who visit friends here and see how much better it is than their hall.
Goldney accomodates 265 students in flats of 6-8 people in 1990's built/refurbished blocks. The blocks where built at the side of the 18th century gardens that lead down from the original hall which now contains the bar and other social areas. As with most things in Clifton, it is built on the side of a hill so the gardens go down in huge steps to the paddocks beneath. It is a facinating place to explore with strange old buildings, high drops, statues and squirrels at every turn. Not forgetting the famous underground Goldney Grotto!
A five minute walk in one direction takes you through the Clifton village shopping area to some pubs with incredible views of the Avon gorge and the Clifton suspension bridge. Ten minutes in the opposite direction takes students to the main university buildings and a five minute walk through the graveyard leads straight to the student's union.
Of course the thing that really makes Goldney so great is the people and the things they do. Goldney has the most extravagant and amazing summer ball of all the halls and there are hundreds of socials throughout the year including the Goldneyvision song contest that marks the end of fresher's fortnight. There is also the pond in the middle of the blocks for dunking people on their birthday (or any other time) and a good chance of seeing famous people or camera crews filming BBC productions in the grounds.
Yes, Goldney is great and I've only been here a fortnight so there's plenty more for me to discover and enjoy.
