The book buying public don't want to read about normal life! Strange experiences are much more marketable!

Z Posted Jan 10, 2003
I still think that you need to have a bit more perscpetive on things to write decently and to have characters that behave in a realistic manner though! I do note that lots of 14 year olds write books but very few of them seem to actually be in Waterstones!
hello!
The DON Master Posted Jan 17, 2003
i received a reply to one of my peer review postings about 4 days ago (the one about dons) and was just wondering if you could give me some follow up help on getting it out intothe community. so far not much has happened to my article

Hey, but that's JUST the right experiences to have for a succesful writer! No one wants to read about boring old normal life, they're busy living it & want to escape into stories about exciting people like US!! (or this is what I've had a lifetime of being told "Terri, why don't you write a book about your life, it's so interesting")
Only trouble is
a) no-one would believe it's all bloody true (I must have done just about every hard-luck cliché plot possible)
b) I'm a lazy little toad & actually getting round to writing it seems to somewhat resemble hard work; to which I have severe allergic symptoms.
c) If I ever did do it, I'm so horribly over-sensitive to criticism, if it didn't win the Booker prize I'd probably kill myself or worse
d) the only good life-stories seem to be about people who are famous, dead or preferably both. I realise that writing it could end up making me one of these (see above) but it's a bit of a gamble which it would be.
So, all in all, maybe I should offer to write YOUR biography & you do mine!! Anyway, Z, keep up the good work -- you've just motivated me to write that book review NOW; see below:
"tasting Salt" by somebodyorother
verdict: don't bother.
There you go, writing's dead easy isn't it!
Off to add you to De Myelin Nation frends, you'll find I've nagged you about this on the "sub-ed" thread as well (told you the hi one gets lost!!)
Terri

Is it I'm not sure, I remember when I was about 14 thinking that I would have to be a writer or an artist sort of person because I didn't come from the background to be a normal person.
I'd like to be a normal person but it never seems to happen!!! things keep carrering off track..
And the DON Master I think a good place to start your project would be Ask h2g2, I'd simply pose a question asking who they think made the most significant contribution to culture... and then expalin your project when people start getting talking about it.!
Here's a link to Ask h2g2 for you ! good luck...

Hi Madame Kat!!! I've got a real one to, but the virtual one looks a lot better in goo! unfortunaly the place where I'm on placement on is too slow for goo so I have to have ala****ster..

Autumn Hughes Posted Jan 18, 2003
That's a shame. Have you tried it in Brunel? I find it's almost as fast as alabaster.
Sorry about popping up, with an off-topic post, in the middle of your thread. I pressed the button on your page and it appeared here.

I'm new here. I need some help and was wondering if you could help or point me to someone... I am writing a report on spell checking algorithms, is there anything on it in this forum? Or do you know anyone who can help me please?
Thank you
hey
Z Posted Jan 19, 2003
Hi Kayser welcome to h2g2!!!!
Well I'd love to know more about spell checking aligorthyms.. (you can see that from my attempt at spelling them..) but I expect that the best place to find out what there is about them on h2g2 is to do an advanced search, you can see if they're mentioned in enteries and forums that way..
Just click on advanced search!!!

Hi Z,not much of a joiner type-but do you have a group to hang with? The spelling mis-fits?(Dad taught english, shakesphere, latin, spanish, then pottery took over-literally)! Neugen
