Coffee and maybe a Balvenie Chaser?

Hi there Lurcher
How are you? How are you finding this place? I have only been here a few months and have to admit to being totally addicted! At first I found it all a bit overwhelming but then I started to meet some of the great people who are here and the fun really began! There is so much to do, so much to see and so many great people.
I probably should try and introduce myself better but as you will see from my space, if you care to drop by, I am not very good at that!
I noticed that you like motoring and have found some GP threads Yep a little known fact round here is that I am a petrol head! I even used to be a motor race marshal. Will you be watching the GP on Sunday?
Hope to talk to you more soon
Light

Morning Light, nice of you to drop by
The coffee& Balvenie sounds a life saver!
Still at the"overwhelmed" stage here, think I`m trying to do too much too soon,----Hitting the keys before my brain is in gear
Think a period of quietly looking around is called for!
Race Marshal! I`m impressed Light! I`m keen on anything to do with motoring....Will be watching the GP, be a bit different without Murray though, But I thing it`s left in good hands.
Having dire problems with the PC at the moment, Cafram was trying to help me out last night until exhaustion got the better of me , and now My server keeps cutting me off
*gives up the ghost and downs the Balvenie*
Cheers Light, back when I can !

My connection has been 'difficult' today too! I am sure that between you and Cafram you will get the PC in shape soon
You seem to be doing great so far to me - you certainly have got the hang of the smilies They took me forever!
I found just jumping in and seemed to have survived and enjoyed the process, so my advice would be to follow your nose and see where it takes you.
Here is a question for you ...
What do you hope to get out of h2g2?
I am looking forward to Sundays Race, it will be sad without Murray but change can be good and I agree that it is in great hands. Martin is genuinely a nice guy (I have met him ) Did I hear somewhere that Alesi is retiring after this race?
What else to do with motoring do you enjoy?
See you later Lurcher

Back again for a brief stay, have decided to delay messing with the PC until some more apprpriate time!
A couple of answers, Light.
Yes , Martin B is going to great, has been there, done it, and deserves it. And you`ve met him!!
I enjoy actually driving itself, just as well `cos I used to do about 80,000 miles a year at one time. Not any longer, nowadays just social and pleasure, with a tiny bit of business use.
In my motorcycling days (a long time ago) we used to go all over the UK to race meetings, but Shirl, (my wife) got a bit fed up with always travelling at 45 degrees to the horizontal, so switched back to cars
Also used to really enjoy "Top Gear" but it`s not the same without Quentin Wilson and the big fella. Tiff`s still there tho` so that`s something.
Your other question I`d like to come back to, Light, when I`ve thought a bit more about it.
Must shoot off again for a while.
See you later

Did you race cars? What ones?
I miss the old Top Gear too - I also met Tiff a few times - he was a firm fave with us lady marshals - often winning rear of the day!
Clarkeson was good too as he is well just Clarkeson
Catch up again soon

Back again
No , never did race cars Light(only around the M25!) but I do have a pal that is a part-time mechanic for a guy that prepares race cars (can`t remember which of the minor formulas),he gets to travel to a lot of the circuits. That`s my closest tie to motor racing!!
Incidentally, Donnington is just down the road from me, been improved enormously over the years.Would love to see some major car racing there, as well as motor bikes.
With regard to "what do I hope to.......? well,at the moment I see h2g2 as somewhere I could possibly:
1. Make some new friends
2 Learn about what other people think about anything and everthing
3 Educate myself by listening to ,and reading about people whose`s contributions I can`t hope to emulate
4 If ever I do have an opinion or view on something, have it listened to with respect.
And also I hope it fills a gap that I can`t quite define, but is in there somewhere, nagging away.
Bit much to expect Light ??
See you later

What a great answer to a big question
I dont think it is too much to hope for at all, this place has more than exceeded my expectations!
With the risk of telling you some things you may well already have discovered, and apologising in advance if you have, if I could take the liberty of going down your list and maybe giving you some pointers to places I have found... If this is stuff you already know just skip this bit!
1. Friends - well actually you seem to be doing great at this bit - the gang that come into the bar are great - just jump into the conversation. The same goes for most people - if you want to talk to them outside an existing conversation if you go to their space by clicking on their name, you can start a new conversation by clicking the 'discuss this entry' button. I found that clicking the notify me of new conversation about this entry was a great help in not missing new conversations on my space
2 & 3 these will happen as you talk to more people. Read learn and enjoy! There are some areas where people 'role play' and others where they go for more serious debate. There is a section on the front page which has the current talking points on and ask the h2g2 community would be another great place to start.
Personal soap box alert - dont put yourself down - if you want to I am sure you would be able to write a great entry, everyone is vasluable and has something worthwhile to say
* note to self, listen to your own advice sometimes! *
4 - I have found that this happens and its great, but sometimes you have to remember that English is not everyones first language and that there are people of all ages here
As to filling that nagging gap that you cant define. Follow your nose, I think it will happen.
Wow - sorry that went on a bit!
I am impressed you managed to race on the M25, seems to be a permanant car park when ever I go there!
See you soon

Thanks Light
What`s this I hear about becoming an ACE? Brilliant
By the way, met up with this pal of mine I mentioned earlier? re what type of racing? Well it`s sports car racing, also Le Mans and the guy that maintains, services them etc also enters. His last Le mans ended with him being flown home by Air Ambulance after being clipped by That Irish Chap, who does tend to clip a lot of people!!
Already had a few too many s. You won`t ban me from the bar if I call round later will you?

Thank you
Having just got back from my local after more than one or two would it not be rather hypocritical of me if I was to ban people who had been drinking elsewhere. Maybe I should be cross that they did not do all their drinking at my bar but what the heck, providing they come back to the Lighthouse Bar ...
See you there?
* goes back to the bar, having noted that her typing is worse than before she left *

Hello Light!!
Well yes, apart from a few things that I will have to think about, and do something about. But on the whole, great. I see Schumie set a new record, did you watch the race?
Coffee and maybe a Balvenie Chaser?
Lighthousegirl - back on board Posted Oct 14, 2001
Yes, I saw the race, but not until the replay. I did a really bad job of sleeping last night (beconming a bit of a habit that one - long and complex story which I wont bore you with right now!) so did not get up in time
Are you a Schumie fan?
I thought Alesi's exit was pretty spectacular!
Your comment 'apart from a few things that I will have to think about, and do something about' worries me. Are you OK? Do you want to talk about it? If you need a sounding board and feel that this is not the right place let me know and I will let you have my email adress ...
If I am worrying unnecessarily then that is great! I am good at worrying!
I am going to have to call it a night in a little while, I have a heavy day in the office with an early start but I will be on line most of the day Anyway let me know if you are OK?

Is there any room for a real sailor?
turns green at the smell of the cooking and runs to the side and starts to throw up.
