A bit melodramatic, but the writing side of things still seems active with the underguide arriving soon, so we aren't all descending into chat and journal entries...

i personally don't hold much hope for the writing sides of h2g2. the EG is falling in standard, and i don't hold much hope for the underguide, as it seems that certain people are shaping it into what they want by being all 'cuddly' with people, and the true vision of the UG and it's original potential is being lost. but, even if those 2 writing sides end up flunking, at least there'll sil be my Spaced Out Guide which will always contain entries that meet the standards set - Does not brake the house rules.
on the community side i think that is only growing and growing, with nw people joining and new friends being made. that is one of the reasns i enjoy making loads of journal entries, as i usually get at least 1 reply to them, causing some sort of conversation between friends.

I think the simplest and yet most efficent way to get the writing side up and runningin both quantity and quality is cooperation.
Looking for partners to work with an entry CAN be very contributing, but the CWW and the AWW and the WW are working so poorly, and coupled with that the favouritism towards the peer review makes it very hard to make partnership writing work.

i would have to agree with you there rimmer. colaborative entries are usually more accurate, of a better quality, and need less time in peer review. of course, entrie that are written well by one person and are strutinised in peer review also produces entries of quality and quantity, but it's the pr process that isn't working properly and is allowing poor entries into the EG.

I was in a convo about scouts concentrating on the WW's, I thought that was a good idea but the mods did not.

The scouts are currently having a go at toughening up the italics so they can hit 'Reject' more often . But the WW is really dead. I've had an article in there for a week or so now, with absolutely no comments, really quite annoying as it would be helpful to have PR-type feedback as I'm writing instead of having to wait.

Rimmer probably meant editors?
WW will never be a terribly popular forum, but as I understand it, CWW will be changing into the update forum or something like it soon, and the AWW is already under underguide comment

I heard the same thing, too - A982172: "... we are proposing to take the Collaborative Writing Workshop and turn it into the Update Review Forum".

It sounds like a very stupid idea. Do you remember where you read it?

That doesn't sound so good A good bit of cooperative writing never hurt anyone, and updates aren't really _that_ common (well, quite a few would appear once a proper place was setup), but a collaborative entry is a good way to get newbies into writing, and a wider choice than just the one on the frontpage is always helpful. Perhaps we all need to go and write one...

I don't think the CWW serves much of a purpose the way it is now.
I always liked the idea of the CWW, but it never really worked for me
