The reluctant vegan
Posted Nov 10, 2012
I've been getting stomach pains for a while and so far nothing has turned up in the subsequent medical investigations. Well, apart from the dietician telling me I'm not coeliac and the pain and bloating is because despite my back problems I should be out doing 5k runs every morning
Recently I started buying tea instead of coffee at uni, mainly because it's cheaper and I'm still awaiting my student money from SAAS (which is an epic story in itself). I've noticed that I've been losing weight, so I was surprised when I weighed myself the other day and discovered I'd lost about six or seven kilos over two weeks! I take my tea black and my coffee white and haven't been eating a lot of dairy products recently, so have come to the conclusion that I may be lactose intolerant. Trouble is, if I cut out dairy completely that means I'll be vegan and I don't wanna be a vegan - cheese is just too awesome to give up

Call it a mid life crisis or whatever, but I'm determined to fulfil one of my life goals by getting a degree once and for all. This time next month I'll be an alumni of Edinburgh Napier University once again

Hitchhikers Live
Posted Jul 21, 2012
We went to see Hitchhikers Live in Edinburgh this evening and it was amazing! It was so lovely to see the original cast members reunited plus friends (although sadly Stephen Moore couldn't make it so all his bits were recorded). The show was done in the style of the radio series, with the cast around mics with scripts in hand, with the sound effects guys at the edge of the stage. We were treated to a live band and musical interludes, plus Marvin sang us a song
Our Book was Neil Gaiman, and guess who spoke to him and shook his hand in the pub afterwards? Unfortunately Simon Jones was lurking in the background and we didn't realise he'd been there all the time until we were out of the pub and on our way home , but that moment of daftness doesn't take away the fact that a really wonderful night out

Jolly holidays
Posted Jul 9, 2012
Well, that was a fun trip to Aberystwyth last week!
First we discovered J had come out with chickenpox the night before, but we phoned NHS 24 who said she'd be fine as long as she stayed away from other kids. Unfortunately her tonsillitis came back, giving her a lot of misery and another course of yucky antibiotics. She had an awful time of it and was really grizzly until the end of the week. We also had my niece with us, who was getting really bored as she had nobody to play with, and became very homesick by the third day.
To top it all, the weather was terrible and the caravan site we stayed on was pretty boring, last week still being their low season. We ended up coming home a day early, with the weather of course being gorgeous on the way up - cue a grumpy five year old crying for most of the eight our trip as her spots were really itchy because of the heat. Of course, the car's A/C has gone on the blink so there was little or no relief.
Conclusion? Let's go back next year!

Today started with me bitching about still not having money thanks to RBS, then progressed into me doing an interview with STV and being featured on STV and ITV News, waaah!
