As best I can see, the "Code Red" worm has not hampered h2g2's servers. Either they're wise enough not to run Microsoft software, or they were wise enough to download the security patches. I prefer the former scenario.
Today's highlight, regrettably, is supper. Yesterday I was given an entire roasted chicken. Today I brought home some broccoli. Normally I might have just picked cold meat off the bird, but since I had the veggie I was inspired. Filled a pan with chicken, spiced it up, tossed on the broccoli and some cheese, added more meat, spiced that up, and heated it all in the oven. Dumped over some rice, it was vastly superior to cold chicken meat.
I won't bore you with the complete recipe, unless you ask. Perhaps rather than aspiring to be an h2g2 Researcher, I should log onto [URL removed by moderator]
As Jay-Z ("Big Pimpin'") plays, I realize I'm too comfortably sated and tired to even THINK about a Guide Entry. (Pretenders performing "Angel of the Morning" bring new life to this very full Researcher.) Well, it's trash night, and it's late, so I should get the trash out and get to sleep. Besides (Mase/Puffy: "Lookin' At Me") is getting me paranoid... Well another day, another dollar (or Journal Entry, or on a GOOD day a Guide Entry)!

Weekends

Five days now since I've joined h2g2. Over the weekend my addiction flourished, hours spent perusing the Guide and getting to know other Researchers. Today is Monday. This morning, only time for a brief look to see if there were comments on my writing. Then a long, not especially easy day at work. Coming home, catch up on the news, have a bit to eat, and finally h2g2.
Kids drawn like a magnet to the fact that I was trying to read and think, their questions and conversations making any attempt at reading or writing pointless. So a bit more television (I was most drawn to the CBS show "Family Law," even though I'd seen the episode before.
Oh look, it's 11:00, time to watch the News... Finally, h2g2 time!! I look over some conversations I've been in, post a couple replies, scan my Guide Entries (feeling a bit disappointed that no Webmasters have commented on my h2g2 Link Graphic (A601444)...
Funny, on the weekend, with time irrelevant, I'm inspired. Today, after just one day working, I feel too tired to be useful.
How do other Researchers deal with this dilemma?

I couldn't find my syringe, or my spoon, or for that matter any drugs this morning. Facing yet another day with no truly absorbing addiction besides h2g2, I pondered how best to spread the word.
I already recommended the Guide to a few friends, who may or may not one day join us. Ah, I realized, I manage a web site, and could include a subtle link there!! Hiding a "42" link somewhere within all the text did cross my mind, and actually the more I think about it the more I like it -- the site has a fair amount of text, and I should be able to find some good reasons to mention "42" here and there without becoming really obvious. Remind me, friends, to work on that one...
I decided to put together an image (http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A601444) to use as a linking button on the site. Then I found a suitably obscure location for the button -- h2g2 doesn't quite fit into the organization's Mission Statement, or I'd plaster the link all over the place in blinking neon . Uploaded the files, tested the link, debated whether or not to open the link with a mere mouseover -- do I want to make it difficult for complete idiots to find h2g2, or (as I concluded) do they perhaps need the Guide more than the rest of us? Mouseover it is.
Next, how best to share my new creation with other Researchers?! Since I'm very new here, this involved a fair bit of poking around the faqs and tech feedback conversations, leading me to conclude that I could at least post the link on my space and hope the people who might want to use the image would be able to figure out how to get it from me. Later a few minutes editing the entry to permit even the feeble-minded to get the image. And now this.
I had some plans for today: do my laundry, touch up some rust on the truck, clean the bathroom, wash the dishes, and perhaps a run to get some groceries. I may eventually get to a couple of those things, but at this point I feel as if I've had a very full day. After all, my work as a Researcher must take precedence over mundane issues of hygeine and nutrition, must it not? Your feedback is welcome (both on the image and on how I spent my day).

Day three at h2g2. I haven't found the restroom yet, but have stopped by a couple clubs, looked around a few guide entries. The biggest issue so far is the lag. In spite of my DSL connection, every interaction with the server takes some time. I try to remember my 300 baud days, which helps a bit.
I have many Guide entries in me, I think. Certainly the easy place to start would be describing Worcester, the reasons to visit it, things to do here, top ten ways to get arrested, things like that. I suppose I can start right now.
Worcester, MA- Mostly harmless.
Some other ideas:
- Databases
- Buddism
- Garlic
- Retail
- Education
As I get more comfortable here, I'm sure ideas will flow.
