I couldn't find my syringe, or my spoon, or for that matter any drugs this morning. Facing yet another day with no truly absorbing addiction besides h2g2, I pondered how best to spread the word.

I already recommended the Guide to a few friends, who may or may not one day join us. Ah, I realized, I manage a web site, and could include a subtle link there!! Hiding a "42" link somewhere within all the text did cross my mind, and actually the more I think about it the more I like it -- the site has a fair amount of text, and I should be able to find some good reasons to mention "42" here and there without becoming really obvious. Remind me, friends, to work on that one...

I decided to put together an image (http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A601444) to use as a linking button on the site. Then I found a suitably obscure location for the button -- h2g2 doesn't quite fit into the organization's Mission Statement, or I'd plaster the link all over the place in blinking neon . Uploaded the files, tested the link, debated whether or not to open the link with a mere mouseover -- do I want to make it difficult for complete idiots to find h2g2, or (as I concluded) do they perhaps need the Guide more than the rest of us? Mouseover it is.

Next, how best to share my new creation with other Researchers?! Since I'm very new here, this involved a fair bit of poking around the faqs and tech feedback conversations, leading me to conclude that I could at least post the link on my space and hope the people who might want to use the image would be able to figure out how to get it from me. Later a few minutes editing the entry to permit even the feeble-minded to get the image. And now this.

I had some plans for today: do my laundry, touch up some rust on the truck, clean the bathroom, wash the dishes, and perhaps a run to get some groceries. I may eventually get to a couple of those things, but at this point I feel as if I've had a very full day. After all, my work as a Researcher must take precedence over mundane issues of hygeine and nutrition, must it not? Your feedback is welcome (both on the image and on how I spent my day).

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
