There's something in the water
Posted Aug 5, 2002
As some of you may know, Glasgow's water has been infested with a diahorreah-causing bug. This is not helpful during the first proper warm-spell of the summer . Ach well, at least the bottled water is flavoured.

Edinburgh Festival
Posted Aug 2, 2002
Went to my first Edinburgh festival show yesterday with DoctorGonzo and fords_prefect. Some very funny Aussie comedian called Brendon Burns. Man, I need to do stuff like that more often. The only festival we seem to get round my neck of the woods is Glasgow's week-long West End festival. Can I also say a big thankyou to fords_prefect for sofa space and DoctorGonzo for finally giving me the opportunity to see "Hard Boiled". Gonzo gets no thanks for that second goal in the dying seconds of extra-time on Pro-Evolution Soccer, though. Flukey swine!.

Minority Report
Posted Jul 5, 2002
I've just been to see "Minority Report". I am a big fan of both Philip K Dick and Spielburg so I was hoping for something special.....
I wasn't disappointed. It was a great film! Tom Cruise was on top form, reminding the world that he is both a brilliant action hero and a brilliant actor. He was ably assisted by Colin Farrel and Max von Sydow. A lot of Philip K Dick's ideas from the original short story (which I've not read, but I know his stuff anywhere ) was evident. Most importantly, this was arguably Spielburg's darkest film. At times it was almost oppressively paranoid.
Don't expect a full-on action film start-to-finish. Expect a futuristic noir with action elements. And expect to be impressed.

I'm in
Posted Jul 2, 2002
I've been in the new flat in Glasgow for a week now and have just had the phone lines connected which means, I suppose, I am back.
The new flat is OK, not as nice as the old one. It has a huge, victorian-type living room that is far too large and pockey little bedrooms, bathroom and kitchen (although the kitchen is larger than the one in the last flat). Some clown has put a huge double-bed in my tiny bedroom, so there's barely any room! I want to throw the bed out the window!
Apart from that, it's OK.
