Pawloskis, that is
Today was the baptism picnic, at Ancil Hoffman Park on the American River. Since one of Tom's duties as a staff member at the church is to help prepare for, set up, and take down special events, we were there at 8 (picnic officially began at 11, with games for the kids) Though A and P were there a little after 6 to hold our area. Anyway, nothing really happened that early--'tis just background... For years, the church has been setting up this really clever iced salad bar on a picninc table. Faith and I were sitting on a bench at that table to watch the games. T was sitting next to us. She stood up to help rearrange the salads folks brought, to make room. Faith stood up too, on the bench, also facing the salads (probably to get more ice, or to see what was going on) Faith lost her balance and fell backwards, landing on her rear, and continuing back until her head thunked. Did I mention that all the tables are on concrete? She's OK! Got a bump, and a scrape, (and a scared set of parents!) but once she got over the shock, she was more upset about the ice being held to her head, and the fact that she was now filthy dirty. I'd brought a change of clothes for her, so I took her to the ladies' room to get cleaned up and changed after we'd put some antiseptic on her scrape and she wouldn't put up with the ice any more. So that's one Pawloski down (been checking pupils periodically and such, and she never lost conciousness, so no concussion, looks like)
I'm the other injured Pawloski. Coming out of the bathroom after changing Faith's clothes, I did not realize that there was a low step. When I stepped out, the edge of the step was right down the center of my foot longways, hell to toe. And I twisted it wonderfully. Then, later, Faith had been wearing her bathing suit, which has a built in swim diaper. Now, that kind isn't absorbant--it just keeps anything solid from escaping. She was sitting eating lunch, informed me that she needed 'Ch'nge now' and then got her chair all wet. Changed Faith, and took the bathing suit and the chair to the bathroom for rinsing. Coming out, I forgot about the step. Yes, same foot!
At least Tom's uninjured...

Maybe you should avoid going to any more picnics!
Ouch, that ankle must smart! <> If you *really* do it right the first time though, you won't be mobile enough to do it a second time, on the same day.
Regarding the bump on the head, I was with someone years ago when her little girl fell and got a huge goose egg on her forehead, and her mother was worried about concussion too. However, when she called the , he told her that if the swelling was on the outside of the skull (that goose egg), then there wouldn't be any swelling on the inside (concussion). Still, I'd think it's a good idea to keep the child awake and watch for any signs of a concussion for 12 hours afterwards, just to make sure.

Yeah--I was surrounded by moms of lots of accident-prone kids (and somehow stuff like this happening in front of an audience makes it worse) and a nurse, so I was told several times about how an outside bump is good (Faith's was more of a robin's egg--one advantage of her hitting the ground less than 3 feet from 200 pounds of ice!) *checks head* Bump's almost gone now, 6.5 hours later
She's had a nap (just got up) and I was able to wake her easily (considering that I'd gotten her up over an hour earlier than she usually wakes up, and we got home 3.5 hours later than her usual naptime) The pediatrition book we've got says that sleeping is fine (as she's had no problems once 'mean Mommy' gave up on the ice (she even tried to get 'Papa' to rescue her from that part), as long as the child's wakable (need to try to wake her a couple times during the night)
And I evidently only twisted my ankle so that I can vastly amuse a toddler with heavy breathing when I need to step over something

Twenty years from now, Grace will be showing the long-term effects of that bump: she'll be a compulsive punster like me.
When I was five years old, I fell off the fourth or fifth step of a flight of stairs in my family's basement. I landed on the top of my head . My mother rushed me to the doctor, who found nothing whatsoever wrong with me (at least nothing that could be traced to the fall

Well, there's 3 of us in the family (Tom, Faith, and me) and 2 of us got hurt yesterday.
Paul, if Faith becomes a punster, that'd be a good thing! I love puns, even if I'm not quickwitted enough to perpetuate them most of the time
Faith's bump is all gone, and the scrape is almost gone. Took some hunting to find the place! Of course, the fact that I washed her hair last night and so had to search through fluffy hair probably complicated the search

I forgot to say hi!
I'm kinda flattered that this is one of only 2 conversations you've joined since you joined h2g2 a couple hours ago Welcome, i-like-pigges
Oh, and as far as the other injury, my ankle's just a bit stiff--not any more stiff than the rest of my lower half (probably caused by walking funny last night to keep from hurting my ankle!)
