Amy Pawloski, aka 'paper lady'--'Mufflewhump'?!? click here to find out... (ACE) Started conversation Jan 1, 2004
Well, being 30's no big deal, but *turning* 30 has sucked big time...
Dontbry the 28th was my birthday. Tom's parents left for home the day before, so Tom and I thought Faith would sleep a lot better than she had been, since she'd been in our room while Thomas and Patty were in hers, and Katie was in the living room. Ha! I think that was the night I was up until 4... So first strike against my birthday--hardly any sleep. While I was feeding Faith for the official day beginning, the circuit breaker tripped. Since Katie, being a guest, didn't know where the circuit breaker was, I went out to fix it after Faith was done eating (I'd thought it was just the new lightbulb blowing, which hadn't made me happy...) In my pajamas. The shorty pajamas. And I was groggy enough that I couldn't remember which switches went to our apartment, so I had to stand outside for awhile. Finally got that fixed, and turned the computer off while it was scolding me for an improper shutdown, so the circuit breaker wouldn't go again. It went again...
Church went well--ended up playing in the nursery with my Faith and the *other* Faith Anne, although I was kicking myself for not putting the camera back in the diaper bag, as Faith came over and sat next to Faith for a bit--certainly long enough for me to fetch the camera and snap a picture, if the camera hadn't been at home...
When we got home, I sat down at the computer to turn it on. I pushed the power button, the lights came on, the fan whirred, and that was it. For 20 attempts, that was it. Later, I called Marv and whined at him (thanks, Marv) His diagnoses (granted, under the difficulties of over-the-phone diagnosing) was that the motherboard was maybe fried...
And nobody called on my birthday (though I did get a couple belated birthday calls the next day.) And the only cards I got were the one from Thomas and Patty, one from Tom, and ecard from Happy, and a late one the next day. All of which, combined with dead computer, combined to make me ... Though going out to dinner helped some
We went to see LOTR on Sodit, as we'd decided that it would be too cold to have Faith in the car, as the drive-in show didn't even start until 9 pm, and we didn't think that we should ask someone to watch her that late when they had to work the next day. Anyway, I was paranoid that we'd get to the theater and there'd be no seats left, so I called Fandango and ordered the tickets, since there's only a $1 charge per ticket for the service. Unfortunately, the tickets themsleves, since the babysitter wouldn't be available early enough for us to get to a matinee, were $9 each... So a nice even $20. (Yes, this amount matters...)
The sitter arrived, and we headed out for the 7:00 showing. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that the theater at the Arden Fair Mall was *not* the right theater... We did end up at the right theater, and decided to ask if we could go to the 8:00 show, even though we'd paid for the 7:00. Then something happened that again had me bemoaning that I'd wasted $20 that we didn't have to waste... I hadn't bothered to bring my wallet, as I only had $2 in it, and I assumed (as Tom said he would have too) that the card in my wallet that was to the same account as the one in Tom's wallet had the same number. Nope. So we had to go back home so I could get my wallet... But we did finally get into the 8:00 show, and the theater wasn't even half full
And the next day, I learned part of the reason I'd been overreacting so badly--for the second time, I'm lactating and menstruating at the same time...
So it's been a rough week. The computer's dead (I'm at the copy shop paying to use this as I just knew my inbox was exploding) and we won't know what's wrong until tomorrow or the next day. Then we'll decide whether to repair or replace... Faith's not going to sleep until 2, 3, or 4... Last night/this morning, I took her out to the couch and had her on my chest, and I don't know what time we fell asleep, but it was sometime between 4 and 5:30... And I've got wonderful cramps
I miss everyone! If anyone wants to give me a call, I'd really appreciate it...
I've got to go--I'm running out of money. Backlog'll have to wait until I've access to a free machine, either our own or elsewhere...
Happy birthday to me... eesh

Amy, I am so sorry that so many things have gone awry for you. If I can coax Lady Scott into sharing your phone number, I'll call. But in the meantime, Happy Birthday!

My very dear Amy,
Happy Birthday for the 28th December 2003
I shall put it in my diary and remember at the end of the year.
Well, my you will never forget this particular birthday will you? But actually you will, and you will remeber the good things and be able to laugh about it. Fortunately one's memory is like that.
I shall ferret around and try and find your telephone number. I was meant to phone America last night but collapsed in a heap at about 6 p.m. This morning I have "removed" my journal entry about "A blessed Christmas etc. " by mistake, so I am not doing too well. Must take some more tablets!!. I wonder what of!!!!
Fondest to you three, and just remember that being a parent takes a lot of time and energy and saps any intellectual abilities one might have!!. So do not be hard on yourself. I went to University when I was 44, after I had brought up the children, and was OK for the next 25 years!!. It's since I turned 70 that the downhil race has been getting faster and faster!!.
Your very ing

I just finally got around to reading this - yes Paul, I'll send you Amy's phone number as soon as I find it... I had it here just a couple weeks ago.
Amy, sorry that doesn't mean you'll get the phone call on your birthday, and I'm sorry I completely forgot too... but people should be used to me forgetting birthdays by now, since I *never* seem to remember them.
I'm sorry your birthday was less than stellar... to me it sounds a lot like a typical "mother's birthday", especially the kind of birthday the mother of an infant has.
<-----sorry those are so late!
Here's to better birthdays!

... As I may have mentioned before Xmas, I was extraordinarily disorganised this year, and didn't manage to get a Christmas or Birthday card off in time and, of course, the Ecard I was going to send never happened as I didn't manage to get my laptop up and working at my Dads in time How about a phonecall sometime after the meet on the tenth?

I actually *did* call Amy later that same night.
Hopefully, it was still December 28 *somewhere* in the world.
