We could get a wormery too, I'm not sure we would produce enough scraps to keep them busy when there's only two of us in the house.

So how many jabs have you had so far? I had my polio boser the other day. All my other innoculatons are out of date, but are not required for the US

Our travel documents arrived yesterday, H is going to phone Alamo in Boston to see if we can get the car delivered to the hotel as driving there is a nightmare due to all the road works. I posted a request for info on Lonely Planet re the traffic there and they all advised avoiding driving in Boston if at all possible.

Most people are very helpful on that site, you do get a few flamers, but on the whole you can get a lot of info.

4 injections, one day of the runs and an afternoon/evening feeling decidedly offcolour!

smiley - hug hope you are feeling better now.

Its typhoid that affects me badly. Swollen arm and flu like symptoms with gippy tum for a couple of days.

My GP tried to get me to have the standard travellers' boosters with my polio, but as they weren't necessary for the US, I refused. I hate jabs anyway, I used to give then quite happily, nay, merrily to patients. But when it comes to me, I'm a complete wimp!

Yes thanks, but I'm now in the darkest depths of packing for moving my stuff back to Leeds, ( how did I accumulate 8 packing cases of " not for voyage" clothes?)
Offline from now until I'm in China but e-mail address, in case Beeb sites blocked:-
[email protected]

I hope I'm still in time to wish you bon voyage!

I'm rather envious as I would really like to get to China before the Yangste Gorges are flooded, but I don't think it will be in the near future smiley - sadface But I shall definitely get there one day!

Hope everything goes well for you and that you are able to keep in touch as I would love to hear how life goes for you there.

[email protected] will find me if you get the opportunity and time.

smiley - hug

Don't forget your smiley - towel!

And Hello!
H2g2 access obviously posible from Nanning , China.
Had to abandon my towel to get below 20 kilograms for the flights, ( Vogon constructor fleet airlines), along with masses of other useful stuff. As a result, first few days in China have been a shopping experience, ( shoes cheap but don't be bigger than size 43,( hey, that's my size!), clothes ditto, but styles uncertain) imports expensive, 2 diposable razors cost me A WHOLE POUND, strret food good but I daren't ask what's in it, ( not as tho' they can tell me).

Strangely enough the one vital thing I haven't found yet is a bamboo steamer. I asked one girl with some english at a food stall and she said "What's bamboo?" and do you know, it was the one place I've been so far that I couldn't show her!

More later when I've caught up with everybody.
Ta tien ,( goodbye).

What a surprise to hear from you!

Sounds as if you have had loads of interesting experiences already, I shall look forward to reading the guide entry smiley - winkeye

You have just caught me before I head off in the other direction. We leave for Heathrow in about 3 hours.

You could have done a mime of a panda eating bamboo smiley - laugh I hope you manage to run one down soon, the steamer not the panda.

I shall be back in fortnight, in the meantime hope all continues tickety boo for you!

Got back on Saturday morning and am now catching up with washing etc!

We had a great time, got some what bemused by the road signs and constantly changing speed limits, ate far too much and even saw 5 whales 30 miles off the coast of Cape Cod from a jet boat. Brilliant!

How's life treating you?

Very good, but the Beeb sites have been down for days here, or the other teachers hogging the only working computer.
Did get this very fanciable girls phone number today, after not seeing her for a week...

Have you called her yet? smiley - winkeye

What is the climate like there and what are your living quarters like? I don't suppose you get enough internet time to go into much detail.

I have spent the best part of the day uploading the jpegs from the holiday into PhotoDeluxe, a rather dated piece of software that Adobe are no longer updating. We have PhotoShop, but as all my other images are in PD, I thought I might as well keep them together for the time being. I have done 80 so far, about 200 to go!

The fireworks have started going off here and the people behind us have built the most enormous guy. I hope it doesn't mean a correspondingly enormous bonfire too. But as the dad is a fireman and having the evening off if the strike goes ahead, at least he will be around to supervise!

Yep, called her, sweated blood on the phone, ( even the good English speakers veer towards incomprehensibility when on the 'phone), she's taking me to the Temple in 2 hours if she turns up...
It's not so much Internet time as Internet opportunity being lacking here, H2 is often down here, machines are often crashed and every teacher wants to check their e-mails at the same time.
Could spare more time today, but I'm going to the Temple with...
Climate is generally hot, often humid, but the Autumn temperatures still creep past 30, but after a period of 80 percent plus humidity, it became cold (25?) and I've got flu'.
Accomodation past standards back home, ( I never had a rice cooker, DVD, ( DVDs 42p a time), or a crockery steriliser, ( Hepatitis endemic here)).
Hsve to go, got to make myself irresistably sexy...

Occasionally I speak to Japanese clients who speak good English face to face, but they too seem almost incomprehensible on the phone. Just goes to show how important it is to see lips move.

Glad to hear you are enjoying a better standard of living, but will you want to return to slumming it in the UK?

I hope the date went well. At least as a veggie you should be ok for menu choices there, H isn't very keen on bean curd.

He didn't find it too bad in New England, most places either had something he could eat on the menu, or they offered to simply leave the meat out and put in more veg where possible.

Fortnately I like tofu, but have real Problems in Restaurants as It's a Cheap Food and We Can't Have That, Can We?
I get better food from the street vendors here than most restaurants, tho' sometimes I may eat something I shouldn't.

Date went well,( 8 hours solid talking), I'm way past falling in lust and close by falling in love, ( but her bum is ace...), but she knows far more about me than I do about her, we didn't snog and I still don't know if she's got a boyf., and it's too important a question for me to have the courage to ask...

I'm glad you had a good time on your date, but you know you have to ask her about a b/f.

Bit of a gloomy day all round here. Dull and cloudy outside, inside H has a filthy cold and the smiley - cat had an op yesterday to sort her teeth out and the vet found a tumour under her tongue. Won't know what it is for a few days yet, when the biopsy result comes back, but she is not a happy kitty today. We see the vet again tomorrow, hopefully Sadie will have got over the worst of the anaesthetic and will be looking a better.

I hope things are more cheerful in your part of the World.

Raining here too, actually it's just finished hissing it down, in a sub tropical way.
Hey, I'm on line and you posted 19 minutes ago. Ain't synchronicity wun'd'ful!
If she has a boyf, I'm too much of a gentleman to prise her away with tales of Exotic Leeds...
I'm still feeling happy, ( till that fateful moment), but I haven't got a sick pussy! ( Apologies to you and poorly cat for crude double entendre a la, ( and I think la is appropriate), Julian Clary).

Julian Clary, whatever happened to him? Bested by Graham Norton, probably.

The hardest part is trying to keep the smiley - cat indoors. The little madam usually spends most of her time smiley - zzz, but the minute she has to stay indoors for 2 days she wants to be out. Mind you, having the decorator in doesn't help, he is busy in the room with her favourite morning kipping spot.
