What do you consider to be the first sign of Spring now that lambs tend to be born from January onwards?

Hiya!
I'm thinking about this one.
It used to be when I saw geese flying back, but I saw some a couple of days ago.
Then there's the saying 'ne'er cast a clout till may is out' i.e. the hawthorn flower, but some of those are starting to come out in sheltered corners!
I can't say it feels like Spring yet with the gales blowing outside so I shall have to keep you posted

The May rhyme predates the change to the Gregorian calendar, so its actually out by over a month anyway, and it does refer to Hawthorn blossom, and if you have that out now, the Climate's definitely screwed.
Me, I used to go by when I started noticing the young women wearing sexier clothes, But after many sightings of lasses coming out of Leeds nightclubs in the depths of winter with "next to nowt on" that no longer applies.
Besides which, down here in Wolverhampton, I rarely see anyone attractive, ( is it them , or is my libido fading?).

Officially Spring doesn't start till March 21st, the bbq is more of a an indicator, I think.
It certainly doesn't feel like Spring here yet, in spite of all flowers that are out in the garden.
The wind blew garage door off, along with the jamb and half the lintel. So I'm not feeling very Spring like either!
I went to Wolverhampton once, my grandparents lived there briefly many years ago. Can't remember the address.
I expect the girlies aren't looking good there bacause if they are out without coats on they are all huddled over, arms crossed and frowning because they are freezing cold.

I wish I could say ,after W.C. Fields, "I went to Wolverhampton once, it was closed!".
I live on the 19th floor and the panorama of the West Midlands stretches in an Urban sprawl to virtually all of my horizons.
Only to the North, and in the limitless horizons in my mind are there fields...

And in the far distance, people with like minds that I could talk to, if only...

I'm here, although my brain is often somewhere else entirely
Which thread do you want to keep the conversation flowing in? Otherwise I'm bound to get confused, it doesn't take much as I have so few brain cells left!

As this one has a nice cheery sort of a heading, shall we stay here? What's the thing about and cameras in the other thread?
If you want something to while away five minutes or two, here's something to try:
www.bbc.co.uk/talent/
There is a heading to see if you're talented or not which leads to a little questionnaire. I came out as a Blue Peter presenter, which had the family rolling about with !

I'm sure you'd be better than the current crop ( of Blue Peter presenters, excluding the pets).
If you find me going on the other threads, ( except for a final thread tying parting quip ) just throw me a stick in the direction of this thread (woof).

I'm easily distracted!
How's life treating you? I could do with a bit more sunshine and less cloud, that would do wonders for my mood!

Ahh, sufferers from S.A.D. should avoid the British winter ( The Scandanavians go to the Gambia).
I'm fine but lonely, and wanting to get out of the country and travel, but there's been a slight hitch in getting my ESOL qualification ( I've got to do my teaching practice again).
I'm offline and in Leeds now until after Easter ( can't get Easter egg in the computer)

Anywhere you want to travel to particularly? If money were no object, I wouldn't know where to start! Too much choice.
I don't know Leeds at all, but I have flown from the airport many years ago.
One slice of useful information to put in your travel journal is that the Louvre is free on the first Sunday of every month.

Did you wave to my old house? It's directly under the flight path when you're at about 500 feet.
Money will always be a object so I intend to teach English in the Far East/ Cuba.
Spring
Researcher 179388 Posted Apr 5, 2002
Money will always be an object here too!
Cuba is a fascinating place. Did you see Michael Palin's series about Hemimgway? I hadn't thought of Cuba as somewhere I particularly wanted to go to till I saw that.
Spring
beanfoto Posted Apr 5, 2002
I watched one but I found it the least interesting of Palin's travels.
But then I can't stand Heminway ( too macho by half).
Cuba has faccinated me since the Bay Of Pigs.

I don't care for Hemingway much either, his five toed cats are rather cute though! But I love travel programmes, which is why I watched it.
One palce I'm not likely to rush to is Siberia. Have you seen any of Benedict Allen's latest series, Ice Dogs?
One city I do want to go to in the near future is Berlin. I lived there for a time when the Wall was very much in place and the idea that it could actually be taken down was unbelievable. Watching the scenes live on tv was an incredible moment.
No1 son has a plan to drive to Moscow next year, after he has learnt to drive and saved enough to buy a car and paid off his student's debts.
Spring

yes I've been watching Ice Dogs, but missed it yesterday. Benedict Allen ( didn't he have something to do with the War of Independance?) comes over as a slightly bumbling explorer in the British tradition of heroic disaster, ( in the mannner of Scott).Never fancied anywhere cold myself. Europe leaves me mainly cold except for the Camargue, (I'm into the horses).
Moscow possibly, but your son may be optimistic in planning to drive so far, and in expecting to pay off his student loan quickly.
I may be optimistic in expecting to survive abroad after my frustratingly slow recovery from what could have ben M.E. ( my doctor doesn't believe in it)
