Greetings from Zero Irregardless
Professional background: atmospheric spectroscopy -- laboratory experiments and data analysis. Once an "obscure" field, global warming has elevated it to "mostly obscure."
Interests: History, particularly military history; science fiction, of the printed variety. (That covers everything except the present, which apparently does not hold my attention.) Also, old-time radio drama and comedy; and pseudoscience.
Computer: My main computer is an Amiga 1200 with a 33MHz 68030 running AmigaDOS 3.9. My secondary computer is a 700MHz Pentium III laptop running Windows Me. The Amiga is faster on non-processor-intensive tasks.
Opinions: My favorite SF novels are "Rogue Moon" by Algis Budrys, "Childhood's End" by Arthur C. Clarke, and "The Book of the New Sun" by Gene Wolfe. My favorite movies are "2001: A Space Odyssey" and "Excalibur." My desert island discs would include Swing out Sister, "Kaleidoscope World"; Petula Clark, "Hello Paris"; Taverner Players, "Baroque Classics"; Andrzej Panufnik, "Sinfonia Sacra/Arbor Cosmica"; Don Ellis Orchestra, "Soaring"; George Benson, "White Rabbit"; Freddie Hubbard, choose any; Enya, choose any.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
