I think there would be more hue and cry if he refused to hire and/or fired black people on his movies. The fact that it's homosexuals somehow just gets brushed under the rug.
When you have the likes of "Stormfront" holding you up as a Hollywood paragon for your views on homosexuality....

I lurve Ray Winstone, though he's gotten a bit... bloated-looking recently. He was in Quadrophenia" dontchaknow!
The UK has more of my favourite actors that the US and Canada. Sighhhh....

That does it. The next time I produce a movie I will hire Mel Gibson, Mel Brooks and a lot of black homosexual actors

Is "Stormfront" an organization or a publication? I hadn't heard of it before you mentioned it. I read somewhere that half of the actors in Hollywood are gay. That's probably an exaggeration, but surely they wouldn't have chosen Hollywood as a place to ply their careers if it was a hotbed of homophobia. From what I gather, pretty much everyone knew Rock Hudson was gay, but they kept his secret. Even John Wayne knew, and he certainly disapproved, but his disapproval did not stop him from appearing with Hudson in "The Undefeated" (1969). That is because, love them or hate them, they were professionals. Mel Gibson should be encouraged to live up to that same high professional standard. ironically, Gibson benefits from the professionalism of the other actors who appear in movies with him. Can we hope for Mel to eventually see the light and grow in his perceptions? Probably not. Alcoholism is a progressive disease, and it eats away at brain tissue (among other things). Bigotry is almost as hard to reverse, but there have been instances where it has been conquered. So, there is a little hope for Mel, but not very much.
As I've said earlier, though, I like to watch movies, and I put up with a lot sometimes to see films that might have some entertainment value.

Mel Gibson and entertainment value don't actually occur together in my thinking, so I don't have a problem ignoring the work of someone who is also an idiot in private life.
Did anybody see the Oscars? I was pleasantly surprised at the relatively high professional level of the presentation - but also a bit shocked at the jokes. Martin and Baldwin seemed to take the mickey out of just about everybody.

Stormfront is the neo-Nazi organization. They have a website which I will not dignify with a link.

Sometimes I'm wrong about the potential entertainment value of a film I haven't yet seen, Dmitri. Every year I make one or two blunders by not seeing films that later turn out to be big Oscar winners. I udnerestimated "Constant Gardener" a few years ago. This year I ignored "Hurt Locker" and "Precious." Those were big mistakes. I just bought a new TV with a built-in DVD player, so I may be able to catch up when the DVDs of those movies come out. I wish Hollywood would make more movies like "Dan in Real Life," or "Avatar," or "Coraline" or "Up."

I flipped back and forth between "Corner Gas" and the Oscars and then a murder mystery set in Iqaluit called "Sleep Murder". I was more interested in "Sleep Murder" than the Oscars. I was pissed that the guy from "Inglorious Basterds" won Best Supporting Actor instead of Christopher Plummer in "The Last Station", pleasantly surprised about Mo’Nique's win for "Precious" (and admiring of her thank you speech -- Short -- to the point -- and pointed). I didn't watch the rest.
I wish they would save time and remove things like Best Make-up and Best Sound Editing and the like to a side venue... Who cares but the industry about things like that? And Best Make-up was for Star Trek? Its the same stuff done for 40 years since the vinyl ears Leonard Nimoy wore!
"Sleep Murder" had Jason Priestley as a lawyer defending an Inuit man (Natar Ungalaaq who was also in "Atanarjuat" aka "The Fast Runner") for the brutal murder of his mother and brother in Iqaluit. The lawyer who has just been hired by a large, high-profile Toronto firm just wants to get back to TO but finds himself believing that his client may not have been responsible for the crime, or at least not criminally responsible. His company just wants him to make a deal and get it over with.
Much of the cast is Inuit and most of it is shot in and around Iqaluit.

Oh... and they could get rid of the stupid song and dance routines which are invariably horrendously embarrassing and must be Gawd awful to have to sit through in person. At least we can flip channels.
Why or WHY do actors agree to do these routines which invariably make them look like complete talentless prats?
If they took out the needless stuff in between the awards, everyone could go home an hour earlier.
AND.... They don't seem to be able to cut the music at the right moment or turn it down. The number of times during the show that the sound just ended abruptly was incredible. I could have handled the sound better than whoever was in charge of it...

I was hoping Christopher Plummer would win.

Actually, I thought the song-and-dance routine was the best part (breakdancers). And I wouldn't watch it at all if they cut out the technical awards. I don't really care who wins Best Actor - I like to see the behind-the-scenes folks.
Thanks for the tip on the Inuit film. *makes note to see this*
Paul, I don't care if they win oscars. I still don't want to sit through a movie about people living in an MMO. I spent 3 years there, and it was more than enough. I have been purple. I have acquired Swords. I have seen big, silly monsters.
We just add these things to the Netflix queue, as I'm like you - I hate to go all the way to the cineplex for something that isn't fun.

I believe that has to do with multiple player games... Like World of Warcraft... I think.

Exactly. Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Games, or MMORPG.
Where people live in virtual worlds. Fun, but I don't want to see it in the movies.

Nah, thanks but no thanks

I don't play those games at all. If I see movies based on them, that's fine with me. "Prince of Persia" is opening sometime in May. The trailers look exciting.

Much of the action is real. Computer-generated images are relatively modest, from what I hear.
