This 'retirement' seems to be the final one. Leaving the military in '98 was considered a retirement, but of course earning an income was still necessary. When contracts fell apart and a previous company (SPAR Aerospace, famed for satellite technology and makers of the Canadarm on the NASA shuttles) lost in the bidding, my 13+ years with them was also deemed a 'retirement' and gave me a teeny pension for life, but also lifetime medical, dental, pharmaceutitcal and vision care benefits. This time, medically induced ... But knowing it is permanent does eliminate the questions of "what next" ... so it's going nice. Just working through some health issues yet

The military pension - which I am trying to get indexed to the cost of living increases since '98 - covers the mortgage and property taxes. The other teeny one from a company generally covers annual fuel oil consumption in the furnace and water heater ... The "long term disability" insurance meets most of everything else. My wife's working income attends to all food and daily consumeable needs

So, your own retirement, how is that going for you? I've seen that recent winters keep you nearly as busy as my daughter on the east edge of Newfoundland.

Well, our winters are nothing compared to Labrador -- I've seen pictures of 50-foot snowbanks along the trans-Labrador Highway -- but we set an all-time record for snowiest winter this year.
Almost all the snow is gone now, thank Bob!

Our winter was slow to begin. I contracted a chap with a truck and blade to keep my driveway cleared, and he came around once in December and once in January. And then February arrived and I believe I logged 22 or 23 times that he was needed. Finally though, spring has arrived, the last of the white stuff is gone and the lawns are no longer soggy sponges.

Another winter come and gone, and in this area - mostly a non-event. Not that I am all disappointed.

I haven't seen anything trying to burst out yet - but our weather has temps springing and swinging ... from 10 above to 10 below (Celsius)
