Why aren't you in Philadelphia?

I just read in this morning's paper that there's a librarian's convention in Philadelphia...
Why aren't you there?

Nobody was willing to send me.
In fact, it took them 29 years to get
around to sending me to the ALA convention
in Atlanta last June. They probably won't
send me to this years convention, as they
want somebody else to get a chance to go.
There are times when I think I don't rank
very high on the pecking order.

<--- maybe he can help peck your way to the top.
Too bad... Have you ever been to Philly? Not that I've ever been there - and as close as I live to the place too.

I've been through it once or twice,
but we didn't stop. I was in a college
choral group that toured the midwest
in 1967. We gave a concert in Cherry
Hill, New Jersey. From there, we crossed
the Delaware, went through Philadelphia,
and continued on to Pittsburgh, where
we gave another concert (in a high school
auditorium! ). We sand in three places
in Ohio: Akron, Columbus, and Cincinnati.
Chicago was as far west as we got on that
tour.

High school auditoriums aren't necessarily all that bad - some are terrible though. The one that the county band had their concert in last week (shorty was in the county band) was very nice and had good acoustics. The acoustics in her own high school auditorium are terrible though.
