Thanks for the Dorothy Parker Biog.
What did President Calvin Coolidge do. As a UK citizen we he comes across as one of your more annonymous heads of state.
As hobbes I think I should know what Calvin is doing.
On a completely different note I am in the states on holiday(vacation) in september in the following cities, what do you suggest I do:
New York
Las Vegas
New Orleans
I would appreciate your ideas.

Hi:
Calvin Coolidge became famous for
his quashing the Boston Police Strike
in 1920 (or 1921?), accompanied with
a speech about public servants having no right
to strike against the public safety
any time, any place. I've probably
mangled the quote, but anyway...Coolidge
came between Harding (who died during his
term; Coolidge was Vice President, so
he moved up to Pres., and then was elected
to a full 4-year term after Harting's
term expired. Coolidge was known for saying
a lot in very few words. A journalist
told him she had bet her friends that she
could get Coolidge to say more than
three words. Coolidge replied, "You lose."
Coolidge was like Harding and Hoover in
that he believed government should be
limited; the little that government did
should be helpful to business. From today's
vantaga point, this may sound archaic,
but my father has very fond memories of
Coolidge and thinks he was a great man.
What to do in New York, New Orleans, Las Vegas?
Never been to N'Orleans, but if I were
there I'd want to visit Basin Street to
hear jazz. Also try the glorious food.
New York I've been to a few times. If
you're an art lover, try the Metropolitan
Museum of Art. If you like theater, see
about getting a ticket to a Broadway show.
There are lots of great and not-so-great
restaurants. The Soup Nazi's soup kitchen
is said to be great, unless you don't like
long lines. For atmosphere, visit Rockefeller
Center, Grand Central Station, the Empire
State Building, Bloomingdale's.
Las vegas is another place I haven't visited,
though I've been to other Nevada cities
such as Elko and Reno. If gambling and night
club acts are what you fancy, Las Vegas will
be fun for you. But I guess they don't likie it
if you count the cards during blackjack.
Have fun
