Last Ditch?? more like the first of many.

Just drove the 700 odd miles from GA to FL in 12 hours...not bad pulling a trailer. I've come back down here to get the old Trician mansion ready to put on the market.
Had a fantastic Christmas / New Year with all the family together for the first time in months at the New Trician mansion. Also did some serious remodelling in the basement and further repairs to the dam wall (we have a lake).
Hung the dartboard in the Lego Room at the same time that another hanging was taking place.
I now have the sad duty of removing all traces of Trician from the house where the little Tricianssmiley - monstersmiley - nahnah grew up.
Never mind, "Wir Ziehen Weiter" has always been the family motto.

Direct Hit ?

Well the storm cells surrounding Ernesto are due to hit here in a couple of hours.

All the shutters are up, the pantry is stocked and i have three cases of Grolsch in the chilly-binsmiley - cheers

The eye of the storm is expected sometime between tonight and Wednesday morning.

The sherriff has just announced that teams of crooks are working the filling stations, stealing stuff from cars whilst people are filling up. He says that teams of plain-clothes cops are now being deployed to these areas.

The airport closes tonight at 6pm.

Into the trees...

I'm heading back to Georgia for a couple of weeks, helping to lay floor in the Trician mansion, and to get some more mountain time before the long hard Florida winter sets in.
Only just within cellphone range and beyond the reach of the internet i'm afraid.

Wishing you all a very thankful Thanksgivingsmiley - smiley

Lack of Power

Woohoo!!!
Florida Power and Light just turned me back on!
We got hit by Hurricane Katrina last Thursday, and the power has been off since then.
Yesterday afternoon i went out and bought a generator just so we could run a few fans and watch some TV.
Spent most of this morning hooking it up to the house so that the ceiling fans and lights would comfort us.
This evening the FPL trucks drove down our debris strewn street to applause from all the residents and shortly thereafter the power was back on. Woohoo.
Now we can run the air conditioning again (Temp.here is 92F/33C ish)
The generator is only a little one.
Life is back to normal!
The phone works, the internet is back, the traffic lights are working,
Funny how totally dependent we are on those little electrons.
You only appreciate them when they aren't there.
