I understand, Misty. My sister had liver problems and they took a long time to figure out what was wrong. She spent a great deal of time being very smiley - ill and smiley - sleepy.

Thats if it is liver problems smiley - erm

All they know is that I have abnormal liver function, and all the other tests came back strange too, so the doc has no idea what's going on! She can't make head nor tail of it, so she's referred me to a specialist.

Just my luck, to get sick with something smiley - weird and unusual.

what kind of oddities? with my sister it seemed much like cirrhosis even though she wasn't enough of a drinker for it. then they thought it was hemochromatosis because her iron levels were so high. your doctor was right to send you to a specialist.

Batty, I have very high RBC count, and abnormal liver function. Compound this with the fact that I have M.E. (chronic fatigue syndrome), and you have some very confused doctors! This could possibly be nowt to do with the liver, but could well be kidney problems.
Coupled with the weight loss (nearly 3 stone in 5 weeks) it's all a bit worrying (understatement).
I hope your sister is ok now.smiley - hug

Or should that be mystery Misty. If you are a yellow colour then it most likely has something to do with your liver - If it si it is a hardy organ that can re-generate itself but it can take time.

Hi all

Been waiting nearly 3 weeks so far, and no letter from the hematologist smiley - erm That's the NHS for you....urgent appontment, yeah right smiley - grr

So I'm going to a private GP tomorrow, and seeing if he'll order some flamin' tests. Would you believe, it's been 8 weeks on Saturday, I've now lost 3 stone, and I haven't had so much as an ultrasound, let alone a CT scan smiley - yikes

Only thing is, private doctors cost money. £100 for the first consultation. And since I lost my job when I got sick.....smiley - cry

Oh well, if he gets something done, then it'll be worth itsmiley - grovel

I'll let you know how I get on smiley - ok

Blessed with such wonderful friends smiley - magic

The same happened with my sister. Finally one of her doctors, a rather young and idealistic one, really went to bat with the bureaucrats. Perhaps you can somehow appeal to one of your docs?

That's what I'm hoping this Private doc will do. wish me luck. I collapsed last week and wound up in the ER again. They stuffed me full of pain meds and sent me home...again. I give up!

I don't know how it is in the UK but here it would be illegal for them to do such a thing. Perhaps you know an attorney who can at least advise you where you stand and how to make sure the hospitals and doctors do what is in your best interest rather than theirs.

Here if a hospital sends you home and you end up back in ER you can take them to court.

That was the third ER visit. The first time, they left me to hyperventilate so badly that I lost all feeling in both legs, and my arms and hands spasmed. Then they sent me home, and told me there wasn't anything wrong with me.
The second time, my GP sent me in an ambulance, and they left me alone on a trolley for hours, no panic button. They did two blood tests and a chest x-ray, told me it was just a virus, and then left me sitting on the floor of the waiting room for an hour because they needed the bed. I couldn't stand up. Oh, and they left the catheter in my arm too smiley - yikes
This last time, they dosed me with pain meds, and still couldn't examine my stomach manually because I screamed whenever the doc touched me! He sent me home, and told me to take some laxatives and I'd be ok in a couple of days. smiley - ermsmiley - grr

My GP found more from the bloods she ran, than the hospital did in three emergency visits. I don't trust the hospital anymore. That's why I'm seeing a private doctor. Maybe he'll listen? Who knows.
As for suing them, my other half has said that if this turns out to be something that they've missed, he's ringing a lawyer.

I don't know, what more can I do? Head, meet brick wall.

I'd go ahead and speak to a lawyer. If nothing else the lawyer might be able to get them to behave. It's sad but sometimes that's what it takes. I wish I knew more. Maybe you could do some research online and take a more active approach. If nothing else it would make you feel a bit less helpless.
