Election Day
Posted Jun 9, 2001
Well the election is well and truly over meaning that I can (finally) express my opinion with little fear of "moderation" here.
1) My vote - I voted for the Liberal Democrats party from the four on offer locally (LD, Lab, Con, UKIP) as (by far) the lesser of all the evils. The reasons why I chose to ignore the other parties are listed below :
Conservatives - Too right wing, Anti-immigration, Anti-Euro
Labour - I was going to vote labour but their candidate patronised me into submission. He sent round a how-to guide for voting and his campaign was largely based on how bad the conservatives are (true but....)
UKIP - Anti-Euro always a non-starter
What would have been my party of choice? Socialist Alliance.
2) The results - Hardly surprising, Labour got a landslide again. The best bit was when the tories had one seat and the Lib Dems had 5. Unfortunately it didn't last and the tories got 150ish and the lib dems 47 last I heard. The worst bit was the BNP (Nationalists) got 6,000 in Oldham, which is far too many thank god we don't have Proportional Representation. My constituency ended up with the Conservative by 2,000 votes from the labour party.
Thats all for now on this subject...

Trouble....
Posted May 14, 2001
always comes in threes they say. They're not wrong :
1) I may have been caught speeding (3 points more and I lose my licence)
2) Douglas Adams
3) I've been made redundant.
All this happened in the space of 1 week, so I am fairly unpleased. Hopefully it will mean that my company pays me the money I'm owed which is good. Still as Labour will have us believe, things can only get better.

A sense of acheivement
Posted May 4, 2001
is what I'm feeling now that I finished the entire Pokey the penguin archive. For those of you who aren't hip to the Poke-ster I have provided a link on my page and will drop a brief description on you now. Pokey is a penguin whos aim is to educate kids about proper safety in the artic circle. However he seems to do this by being very surreal and saying "yes!" or "Hooray!" a lot. The humour can't be explained well so just look at ten and make your mind up.
As for the rest of my time this last few days :
* first pregnants rehersal for a while, went quite well we covered "Fight For Your Right" by the Beastie Boys and played some old old songs. Many of which are better than we remembered.
* went to Reading and spent stupid amounts on CDs. within the haul :
* Jobim - The Composer plays
* Public Enemy - It takes a nation of millions...
* Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies - Have A ball
* Work. bah.
