Hi there! smiley - ok

Welcome to the fantasical on-line world of h2g2! I'm Rhys, and basically, I'm an ACE (Assistant Community Editor). It's my job to welcome new members to our on-line community, which is growing rapidly everyday that passes.smiley - cool

If you need any help at all in settling into your new 'home', then please feel free to give me a call and I shall help you out wherever I can. Alternatively, if you just want a pleasant chat, then I am always here as someone to chat with! smiley - smiley

By the way - you have an excellent personal space. Usually newcomers take ages to master some sort of a practical user space; but you have managed to do it in what appears to be mere minutes! Very good; I am impressed. smiley - winkeye

Thank you for the welcome. Thanks for the design compliment, I know some HTML and XML so I got the hang of Guide ML quite easily. Still having trouble with which doesn't seem to work smiley - erm.

It IS possible to get the anchor tag to work - see my page for proof. Unfortunately, it always seems to reload the page as you have to type the whole reference in, not just "href=#name", as you pointed out.

Yeah, I'd seen yours and thought it would work. I'll give it a go, do you have to put the a name="#..." and then the whole thing?

He told me to come and visit..well kinda...he said you were here which is not the same thing but still smiley - smiley

I have a question though, if you're a fan of Phillip K Dick, does that also mean you're a fan of Blade Runner as I've never actually spoken to anyone who's read the original book?

Tink.

Comrade Rumble

I'm not a huge fan of the film, but I love the book. In fact I was pretentious enough to avoid "Blade Runner" and get an old battered "Do androids dream...".

She lies. She's spoken to me, (who's read it) and I'm sure she's spoken to NexusSeven at some point, too. He's read it, but you probably could've guessed that from his name.

Also, what d'ya think of Godspeed, Rumble?

I liked godspeed but I thought that it was a bit short. What is the bloke on about on the second track?

p.s I got moderated :->

I read the book before I saw the movie and I just didn't think the film got the same effect as the book across. I like the film though, apart from the unicorns.

Well, it's only an EP, which is why it's a "bit short". Their latest album, my favourite, comes on two CDs and is quite a bit longer.

That bloke on the second track is great. He's this guy they met when on their travels, Blaise Baley Finnegan the Third, or someone. They use some of what he says (when it was relevant to the theme) on their first album, but this time they used a different excerpt, and a lot more.

As far as I can remember, he's saying how he likes to do free mic sessions, then he talks about what he was doing in court earlier (PAYING MY GODDAMN SPEEDING TICKET), rants about why he thinks America's a third world country, reads his anti-American poem, and then tells us how many guns he owns, when he ceases to be funny and just scares me. Listen to it again, you'll pick things up... I especially love the two basses used in the first track, and the way it builds up... grrrrreaat!

I got the third world bit and the going to court and something like "people tend to agree with what I'm saying.". I thought it was a full album you see (I have albums shorter than that, 10 mins is the record.)

Ooh! Competition, I see!smiley - smiley I'm Elly, Muse of Care, and I usually beat the ACEs in welcoming new researchers, but I've been abit busy lately... Since I can see you're not new to this place, let me just say "go Asimov!", which one of his books I've read and loved, and that's what's got me to sci-fi. (Well, lord of the rings had some part in it, too). Cheers! Elly

I'm new in spirit smiley - smiley. I really like Asimov and he definitely got me into sci-fi (especially "I, Robot" which influenced my choice of Degree!). I remember reading his foundation series back to back, I think he is definitely a great author. I also quite like the Lord Of The Rings, though I'm more familiar with the hobbit (was my favourite book until I was about 9).

I wasn't able to read more than 10 pages of The Hobbit. Ain't that strange?? smiley - silly I read Asimov's book, which name I still can't remember, during military service, so I guess I was in a good position to get sucked in...smiley - smiley Anyway- have you joined the Zaphodistas yet? Oh, actually, I saw you did. Me too, but I'm not really doing anything about. Is there something to do about it?

Welcome to h2g2!

Post 16

Comrade Rumble

As far as I remember the Hobbit was aimed at children, I haven't actually read it, it used to be my bedtime storysmiley - smiley. I think with the Zaphodistas we just have to support them and maintain our guide entries for now. We won a small battle recently and can now quote song lyrics in forums.

The problem seems to be making them relevant. I only just managed to fit some relevant lyrics into a post and it's been at least 3 days of trying smiley - smiley.

I saw a version of that song with the lyrics made more grammatical somewhere on the web, I think it was a parody. I'm getting into the swing of quoting now, I can get at least one in a day if I try really hard smiley - smiley
