Painting #2

At long last, after much deliberation, I have finally painted the second of the "women in jazz" series. It took me so long because I didn't feel satisfied with the picture I had chosen. I didn't have enough to go on and my mock-ups were not convincing to me. In the end I opted for one of the others and wondered why I hadn't done that before.

Yay the band!

At last - first get together with the new/real band. We've got one of the best bass players in town. Jim happened to meet him at the train station when his train was cancelled and found out that he hadn't been playing for about a year and was about ready to do something again. We have a pro drummer and a decent guitarist, keyboard player and of course, Jim on everything else, saxes, flute, congas and percussion. And then there's.... me. Oh well, with a band like that I can hardly go wrong. They played the stuff I put up too. What a delight! It rocked along nicely. Gigging soon, no doubt!

middle-age malaise!! 24/8/01

OK - I've got it now. I don't want to settle down and settle for those middle class aspirations, nice curtains, good job, occasional social life. But what DO I want? Is it that I'm now aware I'm never going to have fame and fortune? I'm still doing things - the music, the painting - but it's not good or fast enough. Or is it just that it's the summer and I always get restless in the summer - reminds me of where I should have been. Or the winter is on its way?

designer bathroom 10/08/01

I've reached a ripe old age to start buying soft furnishings now! I just could never get worked up over them. Any old hand me downs were ok. But my bathroom is now fit to be seen. I have stripped the stupid wallpaper off the walls and repainted, I have purchased new and clean bath mats and shower curtain and I have scrubbed and cleaned all surfaces. How long will it stay like that? A few days at any rate. Until A and I throw our clothes on the floor behind the door.

August 2nd. Personality test

I just did one of these online, based on identification of the most appealing shape. This is the result:

"You come to grips more frequently and thoroughly with yourself and your environment than do most people. You detest superficiality; you'd rather be alone than have to suffer through small talk. But your relationships with your friends are very strong, which gives you the inner tranquility and harmony that you require. You do not mind being alone for extended periods of time; you rarely become bored."
