How useless are they?
Posted Oct 9, 2006
Today I recieved a letter, from the uni I was doing nurse training at. It was telling me that I had to be there next thursday to take a resit for an exam I had failed due to non-attendanc. My reason for not attending the exam? I wasn't a student there anymore at the time it took place and they refused to accept coursework from me for that module, meaning my exam result would be meaningless as I've still failed the module.
oh and I just dis one of those li'l personality test things but for how you are in/with love. Here's the results for those of thee who don't regularly peruse my PS
How You Are In Love
--------------------------------------
You fall in love quickly and easily. And very often.
You give completely and unconditionally in relationships.
You tend to get very attached when you're with someone. You want to see your love all the time.
You love your partner unconditionally and don't try to make them change.
You stay in love for a long time, even if you aren't loved back. When you fall, you fall hard.
----------------------------------------------------------
Anyway I shall leave thee with a couple of quotes.
"Only those whose lives are brief can believe that love, is eternal." - Lorien
"All love is unrequited" - Cmdr Susan Ivanova
"Cannot run out of time. There is infinite time. You are finite. Zathras is finite. This is... wrong tool." - Zathras

Trust are @&$#ing useless!!!
Posted Sep 25, 2006
I recently puchased a new graphics tablet for my Mac, a Trust TB-4200, because it was cheaper than a Wacom, got decent reviews and said it was suitable for use with a Mac. When I got it home I discovered this last point was a minor exageration, while it did indeed work with my Mac there were no Mac drivers provided so it worked only as a mouse with no pen functionality, ergo I had just paid an excessive amount for what ammounted to a rather fidly mouse which took up more space than my fscking computer.
I emailed Trust to ask why I couldn't find the Mac drivers on either the CD supplied or their website. Today I got a reply which stated that none of their products are designed to work on a Mac and therefore their use with a Mac is not supported. This annoyed me somewhat as I'm fairly sure stating something which isn't true on the packaging of an item is against the law, specificaly the Sale of Goods Act 1979.
I managed to obtain the drivers from another company, Aiptek, who make the same tablet. In fact I believe they make the ones for Trust too. I also phoned the shop where I bought it and told them, they weren't impressed and will probably not be stocking any Trust tablets in future, and let them know where the drivers could be found and I've made a complaint to trading standards. Oh and I'll be contacting some computing magazines too.
The moral of this story is you can't trust Trust.

The Musical greatnes of Jonathan Coulton
Posted Sep 15, 2006
I recently, accidentally, deiscovered musician who's suprisingly amusing, withought being overly comical. you can listen to, and if you like it buy, his music here http://www.jonathancoulton.com/songs
On a side note I've recently been listening to one of my very favourite pieces of music. Philip Glass' End Theme for Candyman. The Candyman films being some which I like a great deal and I feel Tony Todd is tragicaly underused in holywood. They combine a deep story which explores, through the origins of the Candyman, themes of bigotry and racism and demonstrates that the Candyman himself is a tragic character, as much a victim as he is perpetraitor, and a wonderful and deeply moving score. If you like horror films and you've never seen them then I heartily recomend them to you. They may not scare you too much, but they have a little more depth than most modern gore-horror films.

The Siren - A short story of obsession
Posted Sep 6, 2006
Like a star she shines, a beacon in the darkness, one side Golden, one side rich Cocoa. On she leads me, on into..I know not, I know only that I must follow. She turns to me and smiles, it's brilliance almost blinding me, but still I follow for to turn away would lead to..nothing, void and hollowness.
It hurts now, in my chest, like breathing boiling steam. The further I follow the more it hurts, but I cannot turn away, I must continue, all around is darkness, unknown. She is light, she is certain. I may never reach her, to touch her may be an idle dream, but I can see her and that is enough.
Almost blinded now by her incandescent glow I fight for breath, my chest burning it is almost too much to bear. Turning back is no longer an option, I've come too far to return to what was yet I cannot continue. I have no strength left either to follow or to turn so I stop.
I fall to the floor and curl up in my pain, as I do so I notice vague shapes in the darkness but my sight is too far gone to make out what they are. Then I see her, she turns to me one last time and smiles.
