Heh heh hello Prof! Good to meet ya. As for me, I'm Willem, a crazy guy living in South Africa on a mission to save the world!

I too wish I could save the world my friendin my own way of course.

some of my PHILOSOPHIES, but not in any order
No1: Everybody is my friend, until they prove different.
No2: The pleasure of giving, is its own reward.
No3: Insulting people, is not a way of life.
No4: I treat all insults as compliments, that way I get more.
No5: I never try to be anyone other than me.
No6: Be true and loyal to close friends, one day you may need to count on them.
No7: Manners cost nothing, so why hasn't more people got them.
No8: Do everything in my power, to cheer people up, if their down.
No9: Always look to the front, to see what you can learn..Only look to the back, to see what you have forgotten.
No10: Always laugh at life,because life can be a bit of a bugger otherwise.
No11: Everything that I do in life, I do in good faith, not to harm or insult.
No12: Death can't stop me from being an idiot, it can only slow me down.
No13: Sadness is just another part of life.BUT! it will never be part of mine.
No14: Each friend I gain, makes me a RICHER person, far greater than having money.
No15: May the WOLF run as free on the ground, as the EAGLE flies in the air and may MANKIND learn to live as one, denouncing HATRED.
No16: Don't think you know all the answers -.-.-ASK the questions first.
No17: Just because you don't see anything, isn't proof there is nothing there.
No18: I will face life head on, win or lose I will never take a step backwards
No19:When the hard gets impossible! mankind! will invent an answer!.
No20:Some people might be able to bend me. But! NO ONE will ever break me.
No21:Wisdom is beyond price! what a shame that many can't afford even a minute amount .
No22:If you can't take or listen to advice! then don't try to give it.

Those are great Prof! JUST … how do you not get sad? I get incredibly sad, not for my own sake, because I'm very fortunate in many ways indeed, but when I think how humanity still suffers, I consider them all my brothers and sisters and they're hurting and they're also hurting each other. And I'm sad for all the animals in the world and how they're suffering. Even the plants! I'm sad about species going extinct. And even different 'kinds' of humans are going extinct, we're losing languages and cultures. Even my 'own people', the Afrikaners, seems to be on the way out.

In my P/S threads, there are a load of daft stuff Willem, but there's a few little serious ones explaining in a way, who I am Basically! sadness and all it's other related forms, to me are negative - I don't do negative that word etc does NOT come into my vocabulary or brain/mind

Wise words my friend

Well Prof you'll hafta give me some time to check out all those threads! I admire and appreciate your sense of humour. But I must admit, mine deserts me on occasions. I try to acknowledge both the good and the bad, and I try to remain upbeat in the face of a lot of bad stuff.

Anyways … you know, with my art, there's a balance between positive and negative … that is to say: with people not very close to me, I'm always doing my best to be positive. On the art website where I have my gallery, I never give anyone a negative comment. BUT in my art classes here in Polokwane we have a bunch of folks who know each other very well and we are committed to all getting better. And in this context we DO give each other negative criticism - we honestly tell each other when there's something about each other's art that we don't like. Then we try and fix it. This way, we actually work together to get better!

Criticism and honesty go together bulling some up, can give false hopes. Honesty etc inspires advancement by "ironing" out the negative bits.

I lost a good friend many years ago by being honest (to do with his marriage partner playing on the side) everyone knew but no one would inform him As a mate I had to, he believed her side.
A few years later, the same event as such happened with another friend again! I had to inform him, time this one thanked me as he had already found out.
I can't change who I am Willem and most definitely wouldn't want to - even at the cost of losing a close friend - I'd STILL be honest

Hi Prof! I've actually read through all those threads! I'm also a loner type … mostly actually not feeling lonely, but sometimes I do. Find it very difficult to relate to other people. I get along much better with animals!

Sorry about your losing a friend due to being honest! Honesty for me is indeed the policy. I'm happy not to have heard stories about the infidelity of friends … over here that stuff seems to be generally known to the spouses of the cheating ones, seems hard to keep secrets over here in South Africa. I wonder if it's a cultural thing. Us SA-ans can be rather big talkers, big on gossip.

Hi Prof! Thanks a lot for your friendship! Over here, I'm very alone this Christmas and New Year's time. My only 'socialising' is when I'm going to the gym, and that's going to be closed for much of the time. So I'm completely alone here in the house, just drawing and painting, reading, sometimes going out to check my garden and plants. At least I've lots of birds here! Thrushes, bulbuls, mannikins, white-eyes, crombecs (tiny birds that look tailless), robin-chats, and weavers … there's a weaver that made a lovely nest over what used to be the swimming pool, but I've not seen the nest being occupied, maybe it's too close to the house, those birds seem to not like too much activity near them.

Well and I have in the house some geckoes. And millipedes. Those come in from time to time, it's nice and dry in here, and they nibble on any paper I might have dropped to the floor. Even a few of my drawings got nibbled around the edges.

How's Christmastime looking over your way?

my "ex" divorced me 26 yrs ago (she went with her lover, who was 22 yr her senior) (long story etc) Apart from my 2 kids, 5 and 6 yrs at the the time, I've been alone 26 yr now. I've always told people = I'm happy in company and I'll also happy on my own company
I look at this way, if I got a new partner THEN I'd have to lose "on-line" friends because of time differences and I "can't" talk with friends in other countries, if I'm supposed to be in bed wit' missus

Prof! How are you doing? Very happy new year to you! I'm sorry I've been a bit scarce lately, I overused my internet allotment for December early on and then on the rest of the month was rationed! How've you been having holiday time over there?

I too used to be on a allowance for the "net" usage, it was a bind when finances are in short supply etc.
So! Please do not apologise Willem ok! For there is nothing to apologise for!

I hope that your Christmas and New Year went ok. I went to my sisters xmas day for the family get-together and then on to my sons for an hour or so - he was having xmas at his home with his friends

Apart from that the new year celebrations don't mean nothing to meit's just another day.

It would be nice to really have unrestricted net access … but for my own mental health's sake I can't spend too much time online. I sort of went too wild this holiday season because I didn't have enough other stuff to do. But now it's back to the grind, working on lots of painting and drawing so I don't have much net time anyways!

I was rather lonely this holiday time, but tomorrow I'm going bird-watching with some friends, looking forward to that!

I am not savvie on the internet and all it's workings etc, so I don't do facebook and other "media" places etc (except here)
