Having thought long and hard, well about 5 minutes and not so hard. I've come up with the definition of a FRIEND.


One who stands by your side, through thick and thin--good and bad times, as you go forward in life.
But to stand in front of you,if they think it will lead to danger or that you are wrong in going forward at that time, again a dangerous move.
At anytime,will give advice, but! not order it done.
Will have a shoulder standing by, should you fall or need a rest.
To have the energy to lift your spirits, should you falter in your stride.
To be a companion, when others desert if the going gets harder.
To be your shadow, even when the sun does not shine.
Then while doing all that,will watch you back 24/7, so no harm can sneak up on you.
And in the end, a true friend asks for nothing in return, except the hand of friendship.
Carrying out this definition can also lose friends, but a true friend must follow this path, no matter what the cost, or can not be called a friend in the end.
There are many more sub parts to this definition and a life time it takes, to find but a few.
The reason it took a while to come up with this definition, is that it is mine and not out of a book, it is who I am and what I shall always be.

Well, think that says it all Prof. I defy anyone to find fault with that description.

I've always subscribed to the idea that frienships or relationships should always have loyalty, trust, love and fun, without one or more of these, given freely and without condition, then there is no friendship or relationship.

Having met you in RL recently I can confirm you are a real, trusted and valued friend and I have no qualms about saying so either.

I had this sent the other day from a friend, not that any of my friends are crackpots!by any means, but you'll get the gist of the words and I think it goes with my initial No1 post of this thread...



An elderly Chinese woman had two large pots, each hung on the ends of a pole, which she carried across her neck.
One of the pots had a crack in it while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water.
At the end of the long walk from the stream to the house, the cracked pot arrived only half full.
For a full two years this went on daily, with the woman bringing home only one and a half pots of water.
Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments.
But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection and miserable that it could only do half of what it had been made to do.
After 2 years of what it perceived to be bitter failure, it spoke to the woman one day by the stream. "I am ashamed of myself, because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your house".
The old woman smiled, "Did you notice that there are flowers on your side of the path, but not on the other pot's side?"
That's because I have always known about your flaw, so I planted flower seeds on your side of the
path, and every day while we walk back, you water them.
For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate the table.
Without you being just the way you are, there would not be this beauty to grace the house.
Each of us has our own unique flaw.
But it's the cracks and flaws we each have that make our lives together so very interesting and rewarding.
You've just got to take each person for what they are and look for the good in them.

So!, to all of my crackpot friends, have a great life and remember to smell the flowers on your side of the path! because you are needed! by more people than you'll ever know, including me!!!!!!!!!!!

ALL my friends are perfect...for me!!!

How very true Prof. I don't think i can name a friend who is "perfect" & certainly i am not, but i can name loads with massively good qualities, which massively outweigh any minor cracks.

If you love someone, you love them "cracks" & all, sometimes their "crackpot" side is actually a large part of what you love about them!
