Songs overheard
broelan Posted Jun 17, 2004
I've been getting lucky with impulse purchases lately: the newest Hoobastank (for The Reason) and Maroon 5 (for This Love) are both enjoyable, the Sonia Dada I bought (for Sattelites) was great, and the Matrix: Reloaded soundtrack (for Rob Zombie's Reload) was better than I expected. Biggest surprise was Staind's Break the Cycle which I bought for 'Outside'
I've gotten my fair share of lemons as well, including the Cranberries that Gosho mentioned, and Edwin McCain (though I considered looking for a disc with his duet with Darius Rucker).
Generally if I've only heard one song on a disc I'll try finding it in our local version of Cheapo's, but if I repeatedly can't find it I come to the conclusion that it's good enough no one's getting rid of it so I'm pretty safe paying full price (as in Maroon 5)

The CD arrived this morning, courtesy of some eBay seller in Birmingham. I think that £2.51 (inc postage) was money well spent in this instance

I got the second Hoobastank, which is great and the second Incubus, which is nowhere near as good as their first - IMHO.
I've really got into Anastacia recently, although the middle CD doesn't do much for me, the first and third are totally first class. Who would have thought that an ageing Rocker such as myself, would have Seal as his fave male vocalist and Anastacia as his fave female vocalist.... I wouldn't have thought that possible ten years ago. I suppose it goes to show how we mellow with age.
Saw Anastacia at the NEC in October - what a show, just waiting for another chance to see her strut her stuff. Just a bit of a shame I was about three rows from the very back of the auditorium

Tend to agree on the Anastasia albums - and yes am surprised to hear you say she is your fave - but she does have a great and distinctive voice

I postulated (and it didn't even hurt) if I had the chance of a night of passion with the lady in question but was never allowed to hear her music ever again - or.... no night of passion, but I could listen to her whenever I wanted.... I would take the music.
Believe it or not, that was an easy choice.
You only have to look at her to see how gorgeous she is, and she seems a beautiful person as well, it just shows what I think of her music. I'm so glad she managed to fight her way back to health after a particularly nasty bout illness. The world is a much better place for having talent like that to lift it.

They're kind of a trademark aren't they. I don't think she feels she needs to hide behind them....

I've been doing Seal this week. Except today, coz I rode down to Farnborough on my bike. It's not a Wing, or a big BM so it doesn't have a Radio or CD player (or even reverse gear for that matter.)
I know this sounds a bit sad so I'll say it quietly
Have you heard the latest Cliff Richard song? It's quite good, with a bit of humour running through it.
What about the new Stevie Wonder, that's a great song.

* shakes her head and does not believe what she read *
Er Bassman - why would I want to be listening to something that means I had heard them?

I heard an interview with Cliff on Steve Wright the other day, I quite enjoyed what he had to say - after all, he's a consumate professional in the music biz and I thought I could learn a thing or two.
