Recovering from reading postings from refugees of tvwest. Doesn't anyone find spelling and grammar to be of use anymore. I held my tongue. I didn't say anything. But it took an effort.

A chat room where apparently they just whiz across the keyboard and use 'uz' for use and 'u' for you and everything else is fair game.
See, I'm new to this whole thing. h2g2 is the first conversation site I've ever used. I was using a typewriter only last month. A manual.
So I'm not used to having an instant reader when I type. Thus, I type for the discerning reader, just as I did when I was typing letters or slogans or fiction. I have to bite my cheek a bit because I have an eye for English grammar and punctuation which drives my wife up the wall. I think of written speech as a kind of first impression to strangers. I'm old-fashioned that way.

Hello all!
This seems a good a place as any to ask GD what's up with all the new appendages to his name. Didn't want to throw that other thread off-topic with personal inquiries.
Oh and thanks for the link to pics of Minehead. Wow, that view from High Hill to the Harbour is amazing.
Do I take it, tonsil revenge, that you have some experience in advertising 'slogans'? I am in the TV ad business in Canada. Your comments about internet/keyboard vagrants reflect my own opinions.
There is already enough failure to communicate in the world without chat rooms further reducing conversation to a few grunts and symbols.
peace

In my guru capacity, I try to pick up the worst grammar/spelling errors on the front page. I am thinking of giving this up. When the editors DO take notice, they make no alterations . Instead they tell me that English spelling and grammar are not fixed and that their versions are as good as mine. Possibly - but punctuation is supposed to help. not detract from, meaning Unintended ambiguity is not a virtue. Best wishes.

Ah. Yes, and it's also part of the,"Nobody else is complaining," argument.
No, I wrote button slogans for two head shop suppliers in the States.
I would crank out three hundred one liners at a time and they would buy two or three. I did this about twenty times and made about $300.00 one year.
I was a spelling chanpion at 13, a journalist in High School, a poet in college, and a radio script writer a few years ago for a comedy programme that never made it on the air.
We've got an RL newspaper here in town that has been a typo and grammar mistake Queen for the past forty years. The editors and the owner just don't care. Part of the 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' mentality.
My child has had teachers who couldn't spell who took me to task for suggesting they might learn before they taught my child to read.

Grey old chap, you don't need to 'bookmark' this one dear fellow, it's YOUR thread, YOUR forum. Egads, m'laddo, first you forget your Yahoo identity and now you don't recognise your own h1g1 'MySpace'.
There, there, you sit down and I'll make ya a nice hot cuppa!
*aside to others*
It's OK folks, no problems here. Move along quietly. Hey! Don't you people have homes. Keep it moving.

Hiya ~jwf~
The appendages to the name have for the most part all refences. Rather boring I know, but there you have it. I do seem to change the darn thing every week or so depending upon what mood or news I want to impart. Names as emoticons - a whole new field
I'm pleased you like the Minehead pics, it really is a very beautiful part of the world, just a little boring to live there thats all. Now what you won't realise is that on that picture of the harbour, obscured by the bush on the right, is the largest holiday camp in the country which can cater for thousand upon thousand of tourists
See, I told you I'd be back one day...

Y'know, I make sure the trash gets taken out, but I keep forgetting to weed my conversation list.
